New Door Handle Installation
Hello fellows RVers,
Today I installed the new door handle I had order earlier this week. It was a matter of time - methinks - before the striker breaks locking us inside, or worse yet, outside.
It wasn't too difficult, save for a little fitting, and chipping away of a piece of inside framing that was blocking the handle from sitting at the right height and angle.
The other surprise was that the striker pin plate was about 1/16 off (space between the two guide pins was too narrow). I had to install the one provided. I was trying to avoid that part because temperature was sub-freezing and I could hardly feel my fingers!
One question however: the instruction sheet indicated one should never remove the striker guide pins, as they are factory installed. In my case, the handle could not be inserted correctly into the hole without removing them. Disregarding the big red warning on the sheet, I did remove the pins, and put them back after inserting the handle. There was also a sticker on the handle itself stating that pins should not be removed.
All of this to ask: should I remove the pins and put some adhesive (suck at Locktite) to make sure they don't become loose?
BTW the shop I usually deal with was askin $474+tx ($CAN) to order one for me, I got mine from amazon for $286, tax included.
