Is this a new rig to you and has it always operated like this?

We don't have that awning, but ours retracts slower than it deploys. If you think about it, it's working harder to rewind that material than it does to unwind it.

Is that a normal speed? I don't know.

Yes, I'm the original owner. Never really paid to much attention when deploying in the past but recently notice the wiggle/clicking and how slow it retracts particularly with original batter only..

Didn't retract as slow as it does now when new if memory serves me,

Can't say much about whether speed is normal but it does seem to compare with others.

One thing I DO notice... your awning material isn't rolling up square. If you watch the edge of the material by the motor, you'll see the edge doesn't roll in/out on itself. This is a common sign the material has shifted.

There are LOTS of prior posts about the material slipping in either the tube slot (most common) or in the sidewall rail and it puts a bind on the arms and consequently the motor too.

Do a search and you'll learn how to readjust the fabric and put a pop rivet in to hold it.

No Adjustment...

Looked up a couple of videos on how to adjust Rolling up the awning to stowed position. Unfortunately the way it was installed, I am unable to adjust/pull the awning since I have a rail gap alignment on both outside stowed positions. I guess one day I will look at the motor worm gear and roller since that looks some what easy to inspect.

Might want to have that battery checked in addition to the adjusting advice.

Awning Speed

There is an internal spring that keeps tension on the roller. In deploying the awning, the spring is releasing tension and the awning deploys faster. When retracting the awning, the motor assembly is also winding the spring. Thus it requires more effort to retract the awning than to deploy the awning.

There are several good videos on replacing the awning fabric. The reason I mention this, is they show the spring assembly and how it is used with the system.

FYI - Our awning deploys faster than it retracts.

If I understand it correctly, the Dometic 9100 has a torsion spring. The 9200 does not, but it can be added.
And both are just amazingly slow

Don't let this problem with the awning go too long. My gears stripped and all the dealers in the area wanted to sell me a new motor head for over $400. No one would sell me the gears except the hated Camping World. The cost of the gears was under $100, and not that hard to install yourself.

Do you happen to have a part number for just the gears?

Mine is a Lippert unit. Facing the RV, take the head cover off on the right and see if the gears are missing a tooth first. The kit is labeled "Drive Head Gear Kit #353964. I suggest you look up the part number as they show what gears are in this kit, just to be sure. Back in 2020 the parts cost $93.18 and I paid $9.99 shipping from Idaho. At the time Lippert didn't have the parts in stock.
