My DW just noticed today that we have a single pinhole in our awning fabric (no idea where it came from, but it seems to have been punctured from above). The hole is located about a foot from the top of our electric awning directly above the stairs to our main door. My experience is that such conditions do not heal themselves and, instead, tend to worsen. What is the correct product to fix such a hole? (We are literally talking about something the size of a pencil lead at this point.)
Thanks, guys. Looks like I need to order some tape. Not interested in waiting to see if it spreads (replacing a 21' awning is probably pretty pricey!).
We have experienced the same issues with our awning only a year and a half new, we actually have lines of holes and as we open it each stop, they are growing. Seems like there is a weakness where they seam melted the material together. It is obviously in a line and you can also see them from the top as well. Dometic has a 2 year warranty I believe, but through our dealer, they have already dismissed it. We have had travel trailers for years and those that were as old as 10 years may have appeared dirty, but never did it get holes, we bought a fifth wheel this time. Guess they are making them cheaper. Sad when you pay tens of thousands of dollars for these units.
Yes Mr. Flybob, As we said in our earlier post, this is definitely not our first camper and we definitely do clean and dry the awning before closing it, but it obviously appears to be where the material was seamed. Not certain what is the cause, but it is the exact same distance from each side of the camper where this is occurring. Thats what leads us to believe it is where there was some melt seaming from the factory. Thanks for the suggestion though!
I just found a 3" tear on the back edge of the slide topper awning on our Sunseeker. Must have hit a branch coming bac to CG from Dalton's day before yesterday! Do I just use awning repair tape from CW on it? The edges of the tear are ragged. Any suggestions much appreciated- I'm affraid to leave it for long because the wind can really blow here! Thanks.
