Is anyone else having trouble with sporadic wind gusts pulling the ball from the door stop assembly? The door slams shut We shove the ball back in and it can repeat. This is not a steady high wind.
Problem is the door has to be straight out so the awning can always work over it. This leaves a broad area to catch wind. I can open a storage pass-thru door and find something to use a bungee on but then the door might mar where it opens wide and touches.
Riverrat958, I keep mulling this over. With your dealership experience can you think of a reason why it was designed so the ball COULD pop out? The solution seems to be in a change in the mounting so a bar was permanent against the "wall". Then you hook the circle normally and it would be fixed.
the light bulb came on this morn at work. some have gas arms under the door which keeps it open. On mine I don't have room for that set up, so why not mount the gas arm on top of the door on outside. going to try it in a few days
I have broken 3 of the clips that attach to the ball, and also bent the ball plate due to high winds pulling it out of my hands. I recently bought a whole new assembly along with a Home Depot spring/chain assembly to limit the door hydraulic clip from being blown out again.
When I get time I will make to mods and if it works post a picture.
In our 8280WS, the pass-thru storage door is close to the entry door. Open that. We ended up buying rubber double-sided tape stick-on pad we put onto the awning pole for a buffer as padding wouldn't stay in place. After putting down the outside TV mount in the pass-thru, we bungeed the door so it was firmly against the rubber pad. One end on the bottom of the door where there is a hole and one end hooked around the TV mount. Now wind doesn't catch the door, it can't tear the mounting from the wall and damage anything. We just have to ALWAYS CLOSE THE DOOR before putting down the awning - as we did in our old 5th wheel.
