Power Awning Question

We have had our fifth wheel since spring and I am still not real sure about the power awning. When I roll it out, the outside edge is pretty high with the awning nearly horizontal. Should I leave it this way and lock the arms in place or simply let them be loose? Or should I drop and lock both sides? Or should I lock one in the high position and drop the other side and lock it in the low position (for rain runoff)?

I'm interested in this as well. Our seems to flop in the wind when everyone else's in the park doesn't move. Do we need to drop the ends and tighten? Great question, OP.

I got some training on the trailer when we bought it....but the awning was pretty much "this button makes it go out and this one makes it go in."

Strictly a personal choice. But dont lock the arms level when raining. The water will pool. Usually i lock the rear arm down so water will flow off.

I leave both arms loose but tie the awning down using cargo straps and poles. One end is always about 6" lower than the other.

I just bought a 5er. with an electric awning. The dealer said not to tie it down or lock it down that it's supposed to be able to move. The fact that the lock downs are so high up you need a stool to reach them, maybe your not supposed to tighten them down? Never had an electric awning-always left a corner down on the others.

You can lock em down. Just don't operate the motor with them tight.

You know I agree with what you said, but the service guy told me that really doesn't matter. But to me I think that it would put an extra stress on the motor. As far as the op question. I don't think that it will hurt anything to pull down the awning to any height that he prefers and lock it down in that position. The only thing that he would really be doing is closing the shock on it. I have to do that to get any angle for rain run off. He can also buy some brackets and install some poles to help hold it in place, they do work pretty good. OLD GOAT did you read this post so I'm PC and spelling and my grammar is correct......

If you use (Support Poles) under the Tube and Straps/Rope to ground,the Elect are (Just Like) the Manual Awning in the (Carport) position! Leave the E Awning loose/unsecured during a (Updraft Wind) and it will/can go (Over the ROOF! Your awning your call!

Cathead biscuits in my neck of the woods is home made biscuits, using the "pile of flour in the biscuit pan, make a puddle in the middle, add shortening and buttermilk, stir, squeeze and mash with your hand, make big wads of dough (big as a cat's head) and place 'em in a buttered cast iron skillet, drizzle some melted button on top of each cat head and stick 'em in the oven.

(Mom's old white enamel biscuit pan is hanging on the wall in my kitchen as I type...repaired more than once with pop rivets.)

Oh, and a good way to eat cathead biscuits (while sitting under your electric awning of course) is to stick your thumb down thru the center of the biscuit (aka feline frontal lobotomy) and fill up the hole with sorghum syrup.

Y'all are trying to get me in trouble....I'm on to you three!!

Where the hell do you get sorghum now days? Haven't seen it for sale for years. Went I was growing up we use to have an alum sorghum pitcher with a flip lid on the table every meal.

In Delight, Arkansas. My sons' great uncle still makes it the old way; mules hitched up and walking in circles, turning the crusher wheels while young'uns pile up the "pummies" (the crushed sorghum stalks/fibers) to the side.

He has a big long sheds with constructed steel pans under them that the juice runs into, then they build fires underneath the pans to cook it off. A couple of the males in the family have gotten some bad burns from doing the cook-off.

And I ain't posting nothin' else 'bout catheads or sorghum on this thread!

<hidin' out in this cup cuz our power awnings are on the 5er over at the dealer's lot!
