retracted awning always filling with water
I own a 2014 Rockwood 2109s Mini-Lite. Even though I may retract awning when awning is dry, I will get much water "raining" from my awning roll as it is extended. I can't figure how so much water accumulates when its properly retracted. Can anyone explain this and how to fix?

Is it rolled up backwards? If it is retracted correctly and you extend it out but keep your finger on the button it will not stop automatically and it will roll back over itself back to the side of the camper
The material should go over the outside of the roller...when you extend it should have the roller tube under the fabric and stop when the valance hangs straight down
This will keep a small portion over the top of the roller tube tightly to help water from pooling if it rains

Water can get in from the front side while rolled and traveling down the road in wet weather ?

But even rolled correctly it will have small gaps in the roll to allow water penetration I would guess.

I'm told by experienced RV tech that water seepage into front end of awning roll while traveling in rain would be nowhere near the volume of water that accumulates in my retracted awning.

Yes it can - this is our first power awning on our third rig
First two old school manual awnings never filled with water but this power one does - we are on a seasonal site, never leave it out if not there and rarely put it away wet but if it rains during week while we are home, it usually has some water in it 😝. Go figure....

Mine rains when I unroll after driving in rain. Not sure how much rain you get.. Mines a steady drizzle as it unroll.

Fun fact: Even though that phrase is typically used to mean when something goes from bad to worse, it was originally created to mean the salt would still pour freely, even in rainy weather.
In 1911, the company had started adding magnesium carbonate, an anti-caking agent, to salt; this allowed it to pour freely. Before that addition, salt would clump if the weather wasn't agreeable.

water in awning
I'd really like to get more info on awning roll end caps. Doesn't make sense when opening awning for rain protection, one gets rained on.

Normal, same for me. Water that catches on the top of the retracted awning will wick its way in the ends, and the sideways force of water during travel catches rain between the slotted connection and the backside of the vinyl fabric, giving it direct flow into the coiled up awning. Unless you cap them which might be a pain removing every time. But, maybe OC has it figured...developing...

Mine does it and I also believe it's condensation. I live in the south and especially this time of year we will see freezing temps at night and much warmer during the day. Mine does it even when it has not been moved and no rain.

The end caps worked somewhat, but didn't eliminate the water seepage. I have used silicone on the stitching at the camper also and it just about eliminated all water in the awning, but there is still some dripping when I unroll the awning even if it hasn't been rained on. As for the awning rolling up backwards, mine will NOT roll backwards even if I hold the button, I've tried and the motor just stalls out. The motor cannot overcome the torsion spring in the opposite end and roll the material backwards.

Mine was the same as OC's issue. I sealed the stiching and eliminated a lot of the water. The main issue that I have now found is that the "Gutter" on my rig is 2 pieces and the seam is dead center in the middle of the awning. No matter how much dicor and trying to seal this gap, water still seeps through the gap hitting the rolled up awing and running down into the rolled up fabric. For my RV its just the way it is. It stinks.....litterally.
