Upgrading Dometic 9100 awning fabric to metal cover?

I have a 2014 Forest River 27RL Wildcat Maxx travel trailer with a Dometic power 9108 awning. The fabric is starting to have some small cracks & pin holes in it near the top where it attaches to the roof. I’m sure that is where the sun has deteriorated the fabric after it is rolled up, because the remainder of the fabric is fine. Since I’m going to have to order a replacement awning fabric anyway, I’m wondering if I can order the replacement with the metal slats across the top of the fabric for a longer life? I did that on my previous trailer awning, but it was the manual style, not the newer electric type. Has anyone done this, and is it a DIY job? If so, 1 or 2 man job? Or should I hire it done?
Any ideas or help would be greatly appreciated!

Same size but with a Weather Shield. Electric or manual.
