What do I do - small entry door crack
So after I returned our Rockwood 8281 back to the dealer for some adjustments for only having it for a total of 5 hours since we've purchased it, the dealer contacts me yesterday to inform me of a small, golf ball sized dent impression just below the door handle of the entry door exterior. The impression is approx 1/16" to 1/8" deep and appears to have just cracked the paint surface. No signs or scratching, dirt, grease, etc.. to determine the cause. The door surface itself seems to be intact as there are no signs of water getting in between the door panels. I do not recall seeing the dent and know for certain I had no cause in doing it - I only had the thing for 5 hours. The dealer is not taking responsibilty for it either...
So the big question here is what to do. This is what the dealer has proposed:
1) Seal the small crack with silicone to prevent any water from getting in and helping to prevent the crack from getting worse. (est. cost $0)
2) Hire a fiberglass repair service to patch the crack (est. cost $100)
3) Claim the damage on insurance, pay my $100 deductible, and get a brand new door valued at $500 - $600.
Any opinion's on what route to take would be greatly appreciated.
