What do I do - small entry door crack

So after I returned our Rockwood 8281 back to the dealer for some adjustments for only having it for a total of 5 hours since we've purchased it, the dealer contacts me yesterday to inform me of a small, golf ball sized dent impression just below the door handle of the entry door exterior. The impression is approx 1/16" to 1/8" deep and appears to have just cracked the paint surface. No signs or scratching, dirt, grease, etc.. to determine the cause. The door surface itself seems to be intact as there are no signs of water getting in between the door panels. I do not recall seeing the dent and know for certain I had no cause in doing it - I only had the thing for 5 hours. The dealer is not taking responsibilty for it either...

So the big question here is what to do. This is what the dealer has proposed:

1) Seal the small crack with silicone to prevent any water from getting in and helping to prevent the crack from getting worse. (est. cost $0)

2) Hire a fiberglass repair service to patch the crack (est. cost $100)

3) Claim the damage on insurance, pay my $100 deductible, and get a brand new door valued at $500 - $600.

Any opinion's on what route to take would be greatly appreciated.

I would assume that the fact that the dealer called to inform you of this item all on his own that there is a good chance it happened there. Hard to say as it would be your word against his . I would think that if they did do it then in the intrest of future customer relations he would take care of it. Pretty cheesy fix to a new trailer though to just fill it with silicone.

Go with #3. My theory is that a silicone patch will always be visible and that a fiberglass repair shop probably will not be able to match the surface texture and paint to make the patch invisible. As you said, $100 either way.

It'll be hard to prove it happened at the dealer. His word against yours.

Don't let the dealer use silicon on the crack. If they're only hair-line cracks, 99% chance it'll never leak.

File a claim for a new door and have a fiberglass expert repair it.

My 2 cents..................

OK, so here is the update so far...I got the dealer to split my insurance deductible with me on getting a brand new door. Considering its his word against mine, I guess this would be the most fair compromise on the whole thing. Its still aggrevating though that I would have to make a claim on my insurance - hopefully it doesn't mess with my premiums. Oh yeah, I haven't had to make my first insurance payment yet since I just got the darn thing - I'm sure their going to treat me well

I wasn't planning on filing the claim until next week, so I am still stewing over my options until then. Thanks for the opinions everyone.

The fact he is paying half proves their guilt.
