Add a 2nd slide switch

We just bought a LaCrosse 311 RLS 2015 year. The switch for the Pantry/linen/wardrobe slide is in the kitchen so if you want to use the bathroom on the road you must either open both slides or come into the kitchen open only the pantry/linen/wardrobe slide, exit the trailer and enter thru the bedroom door to the bath then reverse the presses to close that slide. The closet slide is 1/2 depth of the Max slide so if at a rest stop we would only want to put out the closet slide to access the bath. I would like to add a slide switch in the bedroom so it can be operated from there also. Anyone added a slide switch? Looking for any tips.

I would think you would need to install three way switches for this to work. You can't just install a new switch with the wires in parallel. There would be no way to send power to the motor from the newly installed switch. Same concept with a house where two switches control one light. Both of those switches are three ways. A three way switch allows power to flow to the load (light in this example) from either switch. Another example, if you have three switches in a house that controls a light, there are two three way switches and a four way switch that the three ways connect to. Only reason for providing these examples is to illustrate as you add more switches, different switch types and configurations are required.

Hope this helps.

That depends if they run through relays or not. If they run the motors with a relay to keep the load from the switch, then they could be run parallel. 12 volt different than 120 volt in some aspects.

Good point. You are right. I know mine does not have relays.

If your slides are hydraulic ... it is a bit difficult to simply add a second switch as the pump uses a reversing DC contactor called a trombetta. Pump runs one way to open the slides ... reverses to close the slides. If your slides are electric ... you'll be running extra wires to get power to the second switch.

You might be better off just moving the existing switch to a better location.

You will have to use the same type switch and run extra wire, but it can be done.

Just splice (or re-terminate 2 wires in new terminals at the switch routed to the new location) into all existing switch wires and route to identical switch connected the same. That puts them in parallel and either switch will operate the slide in and out.

I assume that your unit didn't come with a remote.

Either electric or hydraulic units can have parallel switches added. If you'll let us know which you have, we can tell you how to wire it.

One thing you have to be careful of is that both switches can't be operated in opposite directions at the same time.

Well it is a Lippert switch. I see it is called out a hydraulic switch on their website so I think it must be hydraulic. Still doing the research to confirm.
Looked at back of existing switch and it has 3 legs. 2 wires hit the middle one and single wire take offs from above and below.
Will see if I can post photos.
Thank you for the reply's. New to Forest River RV's and am liking the new TT even tho we have only spent a couple of nights in the driveway. DW is loving it to.

That is a simple SPDT (mom on/off/mom on) rocker switch.

As Bubbles said, that's a mom-on/off/mom-on (spdt). You just need to get one like it and then either run wires from the existing switch or from the controller where the existing wires go into it to the new switch. Hot goes to the center post and the other wires go to either in or out to make the switch operation correct.

As I said earlier, make absolutely sure that both switches never get pressed in opposite directions at the same time.

You could get a lippert remote system on eBay and operate any slide from outside.

Added a remote transmitter and receiver, very simple and quick install.
Less than $10.00 from amazon.
Going to get one for the Max slide and awning, now wont have DW wanting to know when to put out the slides, "When they go out honey, its time."
During install,

Bundled unit to wires and inserted into wall.

Never know it is there. Ran slide in and out many times from inside and out side and receiver never got warm.
Not sure why some, not all of my photos post sideways, sideways in preview, fine on my computer.
Mods, If you want to mark this solved feel free.
Thank you all for the different suggestions.

I would really like to know how this one works.
With switches being mounted all over the trailer, it would be fun to install!
