bedroom slide leak

We have a 2002 Forest River Georgetown RV. About 6 months ago we noticed the slide out was leaking at the bottom on each side. We took it in to have it diagnosed and repaired and we were told that the seals needed to be replaced. We paid over $1000 to have the seals replaced. When we finally got it back we noticed that there was a gap at the bottom of the slideout on each side a couple of inches. It was also still leaking. We took it back to the shop and they finally called us and told us they had looked at the former owners repairs and it had bee diagnosed about 8 years ago with the slide out being out of square and he had not had it fixed and that was the problem. However, we have had it for 5 years and have not had a leak. Now they want over $3,500 to "square up" the slide. One of my problems being that if that was the problem all along why did we have to pay over $1000 to "have it fixed" when we could have taken that money and put it toward the bill now. My husband is pretty handy and has decided to try and fix it himself. Can anyone tell me if they have had this problem and how to repair it. The slide moves in and out without any binding.
