Chrome slide out tube has rusty pits

I searched the forum and did not find anything with my search key words.

I now have a 1997 Salem travel trailer 29BHSS with a dinette/sofa long slide out which appears to be hydraulic due to seeing a chrome pipe looking system underneath it and some hoses.

This is has been set up in a campground for years and we bought the trailer because we like the campsite. The trailer is not the floor plan we would choose with it's bunk spaces I may remodel out to expand the bathroom, but is usable for our getaway place.

I am sure the slide and pump has not been operated in years, not that it matters to me as I am leaving it there at least for a few more years of use.

My concern is that I see rust pits on the chrome pipe (I think is a piston or ram). Should I do something to prevent further damage or it is already ruined?

IF what looks to be a hydraulic system is ruined, can I simply release the piston somehow and push in the slide by hand or crank or whatever?

Is it easily replaced should the next owner want to operate the slide? Should I wait until it is needed to be slid in to deal with it?

Is there maintainence to do on the slide seals?

Your comments appreciated
