Question how to bleed hydraulic system

I had a new pump put in my fifth wheel trailer and it worked fine for a while and then last year I could not get to retract so i took the lines lose at the pump and pushed it in manually . I now realize that i did not tighten the lines and when I took it out this year the slide out would not move more than 6 inches and then stopped and would not go in or out. my son came out and help me get back in when we both pulled in on each side and we got it to go in. he looked and found that I did not tighten the lines after pushing it in manually. after I tighten the lines do I need to bleed the system I think I read some where that the system bleeds itself is this true. ANY HELP WOULD BE GREAT THANKS WALLY

Yes it's true, oil used to push the piston out will force oil on the opposite side back to the tank, any air escapes. When you reverse the cycle the same is true of the opposite oil, it returns to the tank and liberates the air. Usually takes one complete cycle to free the trapped air.

Did you top up the hydraulic tank, it will not work without oil.
