Only One Side of Slide Retracts
I have a 2004 Forest River Cardinal 5th wheel. There are two slideouts; one in the bedroom area, and one in the living room / dining room area. The latter slide fully extended, but when I tried to retract it only the side closest to the rear of the trailer would operate resulting in a cocked retraction. When that ocurred, I stopped the retraction and fully extended it again. The second attempt to retract it was no different. The bedroom works perfectly.
Another camper told me he thought there was a gear that had a shear-pin connection to the drive shaft, and the one on the forward side either fell out or sheared.
How do I access this gear / shear-pin arrangement. Is it through the floor from inside the trailer? If so, where is the access port located? Or do I have to remove the galvanized metal corrugated cover that protects the bottom of the trailer?
Also, there is only one switch to operate both slides. Is there some way to operate only one of them?

Mine was exposed ender the slide area on the 2005 we had. I was able to insert a bolt and watch it while the wife slid the room in to make sure there was no binding. When home I found a replacement pin for it.

As I replied in a earlier post, it must be slide day today!
I'm doing a little guessing, but the fact that both slides operate off the same control indicates that it's a hydraulic system...can you confirm?

Definitely would help to know if it was a rack and pinion system or hydraulic ram.
If it is the Lippert electric motor drive, the tie rod that keeps the two sides even during retraction and extension is pinned in place with roll pins as Beast stated.

I believe it's a rack & pinion arrangement. It looks like the one someone pictured above with teeth along the bottom of two rails.
I'm sorry I'm not better at navigating this website, but whoever posted that picture appears to have the same setup that I have. How were you able to expose the drive gears shown in that photo?

I think that some of the hydraulic systems have a ram on each side of the slide and a gear arrangement and cross-shaft to keep the room parallel to the camper. The gear arrangement and cross-shaft should be visible under the slide room tight to the frame. Here's a link to what I'm mentioning... http://lci1.com/images/Flyers/compon...Assemblies.pdf
Either way, electric or hydraulic, if it has a cross-shaft you need check that both ends are turning.

Thanks Dave. I was not familiar with the hydraulic system.
The gear packs are exposed on my camper when the slide is extended.
