rockwood 2109s slider gear

I have a 2012 Rockwood Mini lite 2109s. The slider gear under the sofa is leaving a lot of plastic shavings from the gear. Is this something that can be easily repaired? If and when it does fail how does one move the slider in and out?

Easy is relative. Depending on what's exactly failing, the repair can range from not too difficult to pretty major. But, even pretty major isn't too bad if you have the tools and know-how.

Can you post pics of the parts that are failing?
Are you sure it's the gearing and not the rub strips/pads?
