No, the sensor just has to be properly positioned and close but not rubbing the magnet wheel. I was able to reuse mine though.

FYI - sensor replacement is a good fix if motors won't run, under load or with no load. A sluggish and stalling slide is usually poor track alignment and binding. Cutting loose the side channels and having correct vertical alignment is critical. CC jammed the side channels in and I had to cut away some of the room opening to re align the mechanisms.

In my case, I didn't have a binding problem.My slides have always been smooth as I keep the maintenance up on them. I just replaced the one motor, re-synced and been working great ever since. All great info to share ones experiences.
