Slide out blowing fuse

My trailer has two slides, one front and one rear. About 6 months ago, when bring in front slide it blew a fuse which I replaced and no problems since. Yesterday, my rear slide blew a fuse while bringing in. I operated the slide in and out 6 times and no blown fuse. Does not appear to be a connection or short. Back 6 months ago, when blown fuse, I cleaned and checked connections and grounds. I also put silicon contact grease on the grounds and connections. Both times, when fuse blew it was at the end of the inward travel just at the point of the normal gear noise but no noise just slide out would stop and blow fuse. Each of the slide fuses are 30A.
Any ideas about why fuses are blowing?

The only time mine blew a fuse is when my batteries were low and needed replacing. It blew several before we figured it out. But ours are only 20 amp.

Ours blew on a low battery too. I now either do it when plugged into shore, generator or truck. Seems okay with the truck running.

I swear I think fuse location depends on who built it that day. My fuse is in the fuse cluster with the rest of the fuses. I have seen others with inline fuses, resettable fuse blocks, and regular fuse blocks. Sometimes they are close to the battery and sometimes closer to the motor.

Took mine in for warranty work as the slide was blowing the fuse when bringing it into the full closed position. They made some adjustments to the slide and added a self resetting breaker, it now works perfectly ... The slide motor will draw more than 30A when it hits full lock in the full out or in position if it is not adjusted correctly. Mine would not make the usual clicking sound when fully closed, it would simply just blow the fuse as soon as the slide touched the wall. It now clicks as it should and has the benefit of self resetting fuse should it draw too much with a low battery situation..

Two more weeks and it's camping time!!!! First trip in the new Surveyor!!

When our Georgetown was new it blew fuses when the slide went out. No problem coming in. Found a staple had nicked the wire. Shorting out. Taped wire and removed staple, no more problems

I found my wardrobe slide in the fuse panel and the two (larger) main slides in individual holders behind the battery box.

They were hard to get to so I moved and I replaced them with self resetting breakers. If you don't cut the legs you can just push them in and put some tape over them.

Fuses can blow for a lot of reasons. If you have not cleaned and lubricated your slide seals they can stick to the wall; the slide may be overloaded or out of adjustment; and the rack and gears could be rusty.

Clean and lubricate the slide seals so they don't stick. That also makes them less susceptible to water freezing the seal to the wall.

Try lightening the load in the slide and check if the slide is rubbing along the rugs when moving (adjust the slide up - they tend to drop over time).

Lube the mechanism with DRY lube (like graphite in a volatile solvent - Chain Lube). Greasy lubes pick up dirt and will make it worse over time. Put a big piece of cardboard above the rack teeth to catch overspray or you will be shampooing the rugs! (don't ask how I found out).

I like the idea of re-settable fuses. I guess they would sell them at an auto parts store.
The fuses are auto style located under the trailer next to frame not too far from the battery. I carry a lot of spares just in case.

I bought mine at Auto-Zone.

I am assuming yours looks something like this. Be SURE to waterproof the fuse with electrican's (or splicing - self vulcanizing rubber) tape because the rubber cap will not fit over the auto resetting fuse.

You could also go with one of these.

Mikakuja:

Do you just snap off the excess length of the tabs and insert that auto reset fuse into the fuse panel where the regular 30A fuse goes? I'm having this issue as well.

I would see how it fits first. I ruined my first one by snapping off more than I should have. The new fuse body will not fit in a blade fuse holder. You need the extra length to make contact.

I see. Thanks! I'll give this a shot!
