Slide out flooring?

I understand that the carpeting on the trailer floor under the slide is carpet which I'm guessing makes it easier for the slide to slide. And I also understand then that the flooring of the actual slide out is carpet so that it doesn't look strange to have a strip of carpeting between 2 sections of linoleum. But I'm wondering what the carpet of the slide out is attached to. Subfloor?

I just don't like the idea of the storage area under the slide out benches being carpet. I Would much rather have a piece of vinyl flooring there so that anything I store doesn't muck up the carpet. Think about a young kid (I have 2) thinking that they are trying to help pack and putting a sticky marshmallow roaster in there.

And in reality, I don't like having the only carpeted space inside my trailer under the dining area. Glasses of milk sitting on a wobbly table over carpet?

Usually the carpet is laid down and then the walls are set on top. Not much stretching, and little to no padding. You can take a razor knife and cut up all you want. Then you will have to glue your vinyl down. I know the dinette the seats were installed over the carpet, so do as you wish. Cut the vinyl carefully for a nice fit.
