slide out operation

So the DW was extending my small RV slide out when it stopped moving. Inspection found a broken shear bolt. Looks like it was due to the motor mounting coming loose causing misalignment. I remounted the motor a little farther out, as the adjustable coupling allowed for that, and I replaced bolt with a temporary bolt (not grade 8) and proceeded to shear it off as I tested it. (will go get a grade 8 bolt next). I think my test operation caused the 2nd shear, which leads to my question. I have two RV's with 3 slides. All slides seemed to work the same in that once they were fully extended or retracted, I would hold the button until I heard what sounded like gears slipping, then let go...as I was attempting with my test operation this time.
(pics are original bolt and motor re-mounting)
Are you not supposed to go to this "gear slipping" point?
(I like to as it seemed to be a positive indication that I am fully extended or retracted.)
If not when to stop???
