Slide out struggles to open after installing topper awning

I have a 2011 Rockwood Roo with a Lippert slide, (not a Swintek). I installed a slide topper awning and now when I open the slide the motor or gear is very sluggish. I am hooked to shore power so am not operating on battery only. When I open the awning the clutch gears click several times while opening as though it were all of the way open. If I push lightly on the top of the slide inside it goes out easier. Any suggestions or experience with this?

Do you have the spring tension on the awning topper too tight?

I installed awning toppers on two R/Vs and our latest one came with three.
I never noticed a difference in motor draw.

Those slide gear packs wear out especially if you have been heavy on the button leaving it click more than 2-3 time at the end of travel. Maybe the topper is just enough to put the gear pack over the edge.

One of my BIG gripes about RV construction is where they put the buttons for things. In my Roo the button for the slide is on the side of cabinet of the stove just inside the door & the button for the awning is right across on the side of the sofa, just the right height for grandkids little fingers to push everything. A few years back had one of the kids push the out button when the slide was out and got the repeated click, click, click. That probably didn't help. I put lock covers on those switches now so they can't play with them.
