slide-out topper damage

We have a 2014-model Forester purchased in April, 2013. It has three slide-outs with factory-installed toppers.
Last fall as I was preparing it for winter storage I noted some pinholes in the toppers. They otherwise appear in good condition, but I expect I shall have to replace them, if not now, soon.

Any idea what causes those pinholes?

All three toppers have them. They tend to be about half-way between the rollers and the coach.
I don't see anything obvious, such as debris on the fabric. Nor do I see anything such as tree sap on them.
