Slide wires hanging down

My old 5er had an arm that folded in and out as the slide went in/out. The wire was attached to that. I have seen some with a spring on the wire to keep tight when retracted.

As said, there's a support that keeps the wiring from sagging when the slide is extended or retracted. It would help if you told us the make and model of your unit as different units have different supports. By knowing the unit we may be able to tell you what to look for, and possibly how to fix it and save yourself a trip back to the dealer.

Our Salem has a piece of plastic turned vertical with a loop molded on one end thru a post to hold it that way. It has several pieces that fit over the vertical piece and stick out to one side. These pieces have a hole in them. the wire loom goes thru the holes and are supported by them. The loom hangers will slide on the vertical track. If yours is like that, all the loom hangers may have slid to one end or have slid so there's a large gap between them allowing the wire loom to sag.

The part that broke is called Flex Guard.
Take it to the dealer under warranty or buy it from the Lippert store.

As crunchman said, they are flex guards. Mine broke on both slides and I replaced them, but I anticipate them breaking again! Not a great design, I've seen that some people just attach small hinges at the breaks and problem solved! I'll try that when these ones break!

This. Mine kept breaking where the flex guard attached to the slide. I attached a hinge on the end of the flex guard then attached to slide at original spot, fixed!

Mine broke after a year. There was enough slack in it to reattach it. Wasn't worth a 180 mile 1 way trip to dealer. WHEN it breaks again I'll find a new way. The plastic doesn't seem like it has the durability to make it through travels. So far only the long slide on my right side had the problem. Left slide doesn't extend as far.

Mine lasted less than a dozen slide extensions (maybe 3 weeks). Temporarily hung out of the way with Ty-raps and took it back to the dealer. New plastic loom and rerouted it a different pathway. Still works a year later, but I inspect it before I move the Vibe every time and expect it to happen again. I might just might take it off. It's just for the marker light anyway!

Yep! I just did the same thing last week! 1 1/2 hinge works perfect! Best thing is for less than 2 dollars it comes with a spare!

DreiHunde,

I have the same issue. There is another thread around here that explains how one member installed a $2.00 hinge to create a pivot point. I want to try this fix.

Do you or anyone else have a picture or drawing/sketch of how the hinge should be installed? Which way does the hinge pivot? Does the hinge get bolted into the broken plastic? etc. etc.

Any hint on how to get started would be a big help.

Thanks so much,

Jim

I don't have a picture(can post later though)
But mine broke where the strap mounts with 2 screws to the trailer frame. So what I did was remove the broken piece from the frame, then attach the new hinge to the strap using small nuts and bolts (drilling two holes in the plastic is easy.)
Last step is take those two previously removed screws and attach the hinge to the frame. Works great!
I'll post a pic later when I get to the camper if no one else finds one before!

DreiHunde,

Thanks so much for the reply. I appreciate it. I'm going to give it a try and if I get it backwards, I'll just do it again in the opposite direction. Good news is the hinges come two in a pack.

Thanks again,

Jim

Here is my repair. I forgot to mention that I reused the broken tab as a spacer between the new hinge and the frame.
