Slides in or out

Took a drive around the area today and seen pretty much every camper with a slide in the yard with the slide extended out.

Is this common practice during the summer months? What is the advantage of this?

It really makes no difference slide in or out often on a dealers lot the slides could be out for over a year.

Also its easier to use the camper in your yard with the slides out and harder to steal

When I was shopping for my new 5th wheel the slides were out and the battery removed. They brought a battery cart over so I could see everything I wanted to. They said too many batteries walk away in the night.
