The bottom side of my slide is falling apart!

Rockwood mini lite 2505s

The membrane on the bottom of the slide is falling off. I’d really like to repair this myself but don’t know what I need to do or what/where to get parts. Help will be appreciated.

Looks like in your pic there has been water intrusion. Possibly through a calked seam. A friend of mine had this issue a few months ago and took unit into a RV repair shop, not a dealer, but folks who do repair work only. Slide had to be completely removed and floor replaced. The bill was a little over $3,000.00. Unless you have a lot of skill, this will be a tough repair to do alone.

Looks like possible water damage and you'll need to find the source. It's difficult to provide an answer without knowing how the slide box is constructed. I can only guess you'll find some aluminum channel(s) around the floor edges that hold it in place with some screws and caulking. I don't see a need to remove the slide, unless the sides are also compromised.

You have a BIG job on your hands to repair that.

The floor of the slide has completely delaminated and has extensive water damage.
You've had a leak in that slide for some time.
Not only will you need to fix the floor but you will need to find the source of the leak or it will happen again.

Keep us posted as to your progress.

That's clearly been going bad for some time. Was the slide left out for extended times and was there any regular roof maintenance done?

watched a video on you tube some months back of similar issue and the guy replaced the floor with the slide still in the coach. If you're handy at all you could do it and save a bundle. Find the leak before the fix, spray with water with the slide in and out. although from what I've seen of these damages, the water wicks up from water flowing down the sides. your damage is so bad, you may have to repair first and then look for the leak. just make sure to treat the new floor first.

how much room have you got to work with?
you can build a timber frame (from 2x4) along the slide area and 6-7 foot wide , level with the slide floor

Frame can be 3 or 4 sets of legs and cross pieces covered in cheap OSB board makes a good work surface. Just make sure you build it nice and FLAT

pull the slide OUT onto the frame then lay it down onto the frame to access the floor

ON the floor.... you can add some thin ply on the outside screwed into some 2x4 on the INSIDE for temporary support .. even use some woof glue to glue some of that plywood back together.

You could repair some small ply sections (walls/roof) with epoxy
The floor looks like it needs totally replacing

May have to use temporary bracing timbers on walls and roof to keep it's shape while working on the floor!

Tarp and ropes for weather protection ....

One step at at time and it is doable for someone with good DIY skills and wood working tools.

The member is in Vermont & its winter here in New England.
Its been almost 3 months since the original post.
I wonder if they were able to get anything done (by themselves, mobile RV tech) or to a dealership for a look and possible repair.

I hope they get back to us with an update.

I like to hear about the end result to all of the problems we post or read about.

From the original poster - update

I took it to a repair shop. They found the leak was under the sink. A water hose had kinked and had a crack in it. They had to take the slide all the way out to do the repair. Insurance paid for it. Good as new now!

That my fellow camper, is a great outcome!
Thanks for posting a followup...

I looked at the floor plan of your rig.
With the sink in the slide out, it certainly makes sense.

Happy camping...

They sealed everything. They even looked over the RV and found two cracked vents on the roof and I gave them permission to replace those.

Several you tube videos on this very problem. sorry you have to go through this. I will never understand why the manufactures don't use treated wood in these very susceptible areas., or for that matter the dang floor. Cost more, sure.. I would pay for it.

Many of the 2023 models have now gone to a marine board (poly) floor in the slides.
Since they can't get them to not leak and susceptible to water, they are simply going to build them out of material that won't absorb water and rot.

Another person had posted to this thread just before you regarding a different problem. Those posts got moved to a separate thread. That's why it was in the new posts section.

I was going to say the same thing.
Anybody, if you have floor rot issues and you are putting in new plywood, don't waste your time and money. use pressure treated plywood.
