Vaseline for slide seals

Has anyone ever used Vaseline instead of slide seal lubricant purchased at an RV supply store?

Why? All that will accompish is the ruber seals will accumulate a lot of grit and dirt. You will be replacing the seals real soon.
Dry lube or talcom powder are my two top suggestions.

Vaseline deteriorate rubber not good idea. Better is to take a sock fill with baby powder and tap it against the seal to leave a light powder on the seal.

X2 with sock filled with some baby powder. Lightly rub along entire rubber seal on all sides of all slides.

Preferably a pair you're finished with

I would not use Vaseline.
That would make a sticky mess.

For my money, I would not use baby powder. Ever.

303 or the RV Seal stuff are OK - I used to use the RV Seal stuff religiously.

Then I found this stuff 2 years ago and have NEVER looked back. I use it on our coach's tires as well. Shoot, I use it on all the rubber products in our coach (it really works great on our Residential Refer seals!)

I'm confused as to the application of this stuff.
The directions say to clean & wash, apply the rubber care, let soak 30 minutes, THEN apply an application of the Wash Wax All, (also an Aero Cosmetics product) and then dry.

Is this how you use it?

Ive been using Jig-A-Loo silicone spray for all my rubber seals and sweeps for over 10 years now, two different trailer. Never seem to have an issue. Once in the spring, once in the fall. Says right on it it can be used on rubber.

I think if there would of been an issue I would of seen it by now.

Not at all - I just spray it on, wait a few and wipe off the residue!

That is how the guy at the Wash Wax All booth explained it to me - I never bothered to read the directions LOL!

Are you at the rally? If so, go ask them at the Vendor Area.

Jig-a-loo was banned in California back in 2013, due to the chlorinated solvents methylene chloride and tetrachloroethylene. Might be hard to find in the US.

Thats odd, usually Canada is the first to ban stuff while the US still has it.

Either way it works, I also buy another silicone spray from Canadian Tire. Whichever one is on sale. Ive been using it on anything auto related seal wise. Door trims rubber, bottom of garage doors.

Apply it twice a year, seems to keep everything supple soft

After all these years of camping, I know as soon as you add the world RV to it, the price triples. RV toilet paper, $1 a roll. White swan toilet paper, 24 rolls for $2.99. Works the exact same, did the mason jar test to make sure it breaks up like the other.

RV lube of whatever kind, way more then the same lube at an automotive store.

RV CO or smoke detector, double or triple the price of a house one

I know I do the recommended maintenance, but I seldom buy the RV rated items, because they are over priced

I use food grade silicone spray. It goes on and is absorbed immediately with no residue. It even restores black rubber as well.

10 Years huh? Have you grown a third eye or extra arm yet?

Seriously - really seriously - do you KNOW what is in that stuff?

Sure it has silicone, but it also has Methylene chloride (paint stripper) and perchloroethylene (dry cleaning fluid)

That junk is more toxic than Heptane!

No way would I get close to that stuff or expose my family members to it! You may want to reconsider using this my friend

Yes 10 years, everyday, indoors. Thats exactly what I said

And seriously, I dont know whats in it. Anyone that thinks they know what is in any automotive spray off the rack is fooling themselves.

Anything in an automotive store if exposed to it constantly will cause issues, even motor oil

Never heard of Heptane

How am I exposing family members to it? I do my maintenance outside on anything. Twice a year.

If I was huffing it daily spraying it on things like inside rubber seals like the fridge then maybe.
