Yipes! Forester 2402R side slider roller(s)

Should read 2401R.

Just noticed today this slider has only one roller. Shouldn't it have two??

The roller is about 12" from the right side. The entire width is 6'. On the left side, it looks like there may have been a roller and if it squished out it may have caused some gouging. See photos.

Right side (aft):

Update: took to the dealer today. Got smart and asked to stop in at a set time for a 15 minute look-see rather than leaving it for a week. Dealer confirmed missing roller, took some measurements and pictures, and will have to confirm warranty and order parts. They say it's not a big deal as they can put the new one in without removing the room. Hot tip: Rather than trying to fix the stripped screw holes, they will install the new one 2" to the right. Brilliant! Lastly, the mechanic said there is an inside roller on each side as well as an outside roller (a newer improvement they had advocated to prevent tipping inward) so it's safe to use vs. if it was just sitting on one roller; now it sits on 3 vs. 4.

Good to hear. Are they able to do anything to fix the damage caused by the missing roller?

It really wasn't damaged, just mainly surface mars, fortunately. It's in an inconspicuous location too.

No symptoms here, just a missing roller. What you describe can happen if something gets caught in the mechanism or under the floor such as a rock. I'd suggest getting a strong flashlight and look carefully underneath when in and out looking for what is scraping.

PS: also look for bolts protruding under the slideout floor. See next post!

Update: our dealer installed a new roller and said they figured out the reason the old roller had gotten knocked out. It was installed in a location in which the roller got hit by a bolt that holds one of the seatbelts in place. I'm not quite sure how that happened because there were no protruding bolts underneath that I saw. Anyway, how bizarre. Obviously they had to put the replacement in a different spot!

Further update: the seat belts are anchored to the bottom of the slide-out living room floor on the very outer edge (visually hidden behind the outer edge of the slide-out that overhangs the main wall, unless you get down on the ground). The slide-out roller was installed at a location where one of those bolts would hit the outer slide roller when the room was moved in, knocking it out in relatively short order.

bclemens - this should be reported to the production line. Either the anchor bolts or the slide roller needs to be moved. In this case, it was the front roller but it could have happened to the back roller too.
