'19.5 Hathaway w/3rd high mount stop light

The rear cap is gone on 2019.5 Hathaway models & a 3rd high mount brake light installed and connected to the left turn signal in addition to the brake light. Does anyone have this electrical issue and how have you rectified it.

I dont suppose it's really a safety issue, just irritating that at this price point I have two lights flashing with left turn and one on the right signal. Suppose I could just live with it.

I would suggest that you have the dealer address this issue and not you. This is under a factory warranty right?

SilhouettPenny,

Yes, I have the same problem with my 19.5 Silverback. I have not had a chance to troubleshoot yet, but suspect left turn and brake miswired in the pigtail junction box. My first problem corrected was the backup and brake wires miswired in the junction box resulting in trailer brakes locking up when TV placed in reverse.

I would think itís a safety issue, with the left turn signal flashing no one will pass you on left from behind you. The right signal because you wonít get passed on the right

I really hate it that the rear cap is gone, in our opinion it takes a lot away from the Cedar Creek look. But Cardinal still lets you option in the rear cap on the 3350

There must be a module that takes both left and right brake lines and makes a high mount brake light always light. I would have the dealer pull the brake light and check the wiring.

Thanks all, I spent several hours at the dealer yesterday troubleshooting the issue. Since this is the first CC my dealer has had we are all learning. A call to the manufacturer didn't help. Apparently the wires go thru the 3rd high mount enroute to the left turn light. Currently looking for the module/diode that sends a signal to/from these components. (I miss my '14 Sabre already).

Is this the junction box in the pin box or located elsewhere?

Yes, the junction box is up in the king pin mount, unfortunately I don't have the CC wiring diagram, but that is where I will start troubleshooting. It will be easy fix if it is tied to the left turn in the junction box. In my opinion, that middle light should only be brake activited, so I will look for location (hopefully junction box) where left turn is tied to that middle light, if it gets too much of a PIA, I'll take it in to a repair shop since it would be under warranty.

The standard color for the brake light wire is RED. The standard color for the left turn signal wire is BLACK.

No telling whether FR followed those colors.

Maybe a call to Orvan Fry would help...especially if he's worked with this problem. I know he's added a set of 3rd higher brake lights to a 2019 already - that didn't have them from the factory.

Good Luck.

I would check the left tail light for the wire to 3rd brake light. (CHMSL) center high mounted brake light in car speak. I will guess they run the wire from left turn light up back wall. It would be a real waste of wire to run this circuit from the pin box area. The problem is most manufactures have combined brake and turn wires together now and you have no separate brake circuit. You can buy a separate control box that will stop the blinking that mounts behind taillight. I had the same exact issue when I put a topper on my truck. Any place that installs topper will have this control box. Common problem these days.

SilhouettePenny, have you fixed the topper brake light problem ? I have not had time to work yet, but I forgot most manufactures have combined brake and turn wires, there is now no separate brake circuit so my thoughts about brake and left turn signal being incorrectly tied together in the king pin junction box is wrong. We will need to install a module between left turn and topper, see etrailer web for relative info.

Engineers at CC have determined that the CHMSL functioning on turn signal mode as well as brake signal is normal for the Hathaway application. In other words, if it dont hurt anything....let 'er rip! The service guys at my very competant dealer had the wires hanging from both left turn and CHMSL, testing and scratching their heads. Interrupting the red wire between left turn/high mount disables both brake lights. So we connected everything back up to normal, siliconed the lenses and I'll just have an extra light flashing when I make left turns. I can live with it.

Prior to retirement, when I was still in industry, when a minor bug cropped up, development would sometimes say, "Tell the customer it's a feature." This later grew to become the first reaction to any bug report, "Feature it!" Not too much different from the report you got, often phrased as "Working as designed."

Thanks Larry, now I feel as if I've got an option/feature that will make my camping buddies jealous. Hey Y'all, can your rig do this!

I can live with it, but not really fair for us CC owners to have this extra feature to make others envious.
