34IK slide binding up

Just got home from long weekend camping trip locally, got home unhooked auto leveled and went to open the slides up bedroom slide opened no problem main slide with the recliners and dinette started to open then made some nasty noise and barely opened took a look and seen it opened a little bit on the right side( if you outside looking at the slide) left side never opened. As you can see from the picture it really scraped.also the bottom of the slide on the outside is to closed fully. We have a another trip booked in 2 weeks, I am sure the dealer will not be able to get us in before that. Any ideas???? Thank youClick image for larger version

Well upon further investigation here is what I found, broken teeth off of the gear. Has anyone ever had this happen? Wow not sure if this is a major problem.Click image for larger version

You might be able to get a mobile tech to look at it in the time frame you're dealing with. Otherwise you're RV really needs to go to Topeka IN, Orvan Fry's shop to be repaired properly.

Check with etrailer... they can probably send you a new gear pack. Check this out and call them, they can be helpful

So how do you find out how to get it in there? Since it is only a month old.

Orvan is probably booked longer than your dealers wait time. You can buy the gear. If you can’t handle the repair job call a mobile tech. Call FR and have them recommend one.

This slide always made noise going out from the day we picked it up a month ago, I am guessing something was never setup or adjusted correctly from factory. Just my 2 cents. I am contacting my dealer today and also emailed forest river.

Update
Got a hold of dealer and told me to bring it right in he may have the gears in stock so hopefully it will be quick turnaround and fixed correctly. Also cedar creek emailed me back and said they will get things on their end rolling so this can get resolved quickly. So I am hopeful it will. I will follow up on here.

Broken slide??

This exact thing happened to us in Lawrence, KS. Called mobile tech who was able to machine a new gear case AND was able to find a gear that was much more durable and forged, not cast from cheap metal like the gears that come on the rig. Repair cost us $950 but was totally reimbursed from FR. The original gear is pretty cheap so we ordered two extras...just in case.

Slide Gears

This is more informational but after I replaced my gears, the slide would still skip on the initial problem side. I found this "fix": http://www.rvupgradestore.com/v/vspf...s/pdf/0065.pdf

(Sorry don't know why I can't rotate the pictures)

Thanks for the info very much appreciated. We just dropped the rig off at the dealer so I will see how things go when we get it back. I will keep this updated.

Have you had any problems since and does the slide work smoother now?

Did you do it yourself and does the slide need to be timed or synchronized?
