3rd Air Conditioner Option

We’re looking at ordering a 38EL.
They offer a third AC as an option.
Our salesman recommends just the 2 standard ACs.
Today it’s 101F in the shade, and it makes me wonder if 3 would be needed at some point.

Are 3 needed? It would add another thousand dollars, but I don’t want to regret omitting it later.

Have them wire for and put in a vent fan....you can easily add later if wanted....assuming it doesn’t already come that way.

I have three and really like having them. Could we get by with two? Absolutely, but three cool the camper down quicker when moving and when it's really hot.
It doesn't take near as long after setting up in the hot weather to cool down.

Would definitely do it again.

Was not offered on our 2015. Would not even hesitate to put that in from the factory. Being in the south it would be nice to have 3.

No question about it, go with three, particularly if you are planning trips to the south and southwest. We had a 38fb2 and at 95 and above we were lucky to get it below 80. It also took forever to get it cooled off when we first set up on the campsite. We had the thermo pane windows option and kept the sunshades down.

Got the 3rd on my 38EL. It also gets you the power management system, it controls the power distribution in the rv. I have had all 3 running at the same time. Cools down the rv quickly after a long day of traveling.

I really wish we had the 3rd A/C. We travel "home" for the 4th of July and when it's in the the near or over triple digits the trailer isn't able to keep up.

I would think that if you travel in the south during the summer a 3rd A/C would/should be a part of the trailer if at all possible.

Don't even consider 2 air conditioners. We use all 3 at times in winter in FL. Hope you have better luck with your 38EL (2017) than we did and we purchases to 2nd year warranty whish is no longer available.

We got 3 air conditioners on our Spartan and multiple salesmen tried talking us out of it. One said, “if I add it, don’t call me when you’re popping breakers.”

A proper install comes with a Power/Electric Management System which sheds loads if you start getting close to your amp limitation.

Without that, my hard-wired Progressive Industries display shows my wife and I what each leg is carrying. We keep each leg at less than 50amps. We did pop the breaker a couple of times at the campsite pedastal.

We recently needed to manage down to 30amps and do it the same way. We watch the EMS display and manage to that. We’ve been running 2 A/Cs without issue for a week now.

When you add the 3rd ac, they add the power management system. It controls how they start up. It will run all 3 at the same time. Main unit (living room) and middle unit are zone one, bedroom unit is zone 2 on thermostat. They are all ducted together. Bedroom does not come on as much as zone 1.

We're looking at adding a 3rd a/c unit to our 2018 Columbus 377MBC. Do the newer models typically come prewired for a 3rd a/c? Just trying to figure out if this is something I should have done professionally or if I want to tackle it myself.

If you get the third A/C make sure you get the heat pump option (not sure if it is standard on the 3rd A/C). We love the heat pump. In cool weather along with the bedroom heater in the wall it heats our entire 2018 CC 38EL. We were in New Orleans when the temps were in the 20s and we heated with the heat pump (yes it heats when outside temps are in the 20s), the bedroom heater and a 1,500 electric portable heater and it kept us warm without propane.

I took off the interior shroud of the fan off in our CC and couldn't find any evidence that it was prewired. If it were me I'd have it professionally done, but then again I'm not investing anything into my trailer.

Just a few but i stay hooked up to shore power. I'm in Midland TX and we've already had several days above 100 degrees. With an inside temp of around 80-84 degrees, it's looking like a neccisity.

For your size of trailer I would order the third A/C.
Another option to help keep your trailer cool Is adding the additional 12' electric roll out awning on the dining slide. When extend this will help keep that slide cooler and provide additional sitting area outside under the awning also a double benefit.
