Axle spacing

16 CC 33ik

Can someone explain why my Dexter axles are so close together. Only have 2inch Gap between tires.

Why so close on this model?

My last two fifth wheels have had only 2" between tires, and tires are the size on the sticker (OEM size). Never been a problem, just can't move up in size.

Just depends on the manufacturer and axle type.

On spring axles, spacing is pretty much dependent on spring length so the axles have to be spaced accordingly.

Torsion axles have no springs and can be mounted as close as they want without the tires touching.

My Flagstaff 8529IKBS has torsion axles and they are closer than 2".

I can barely get my X-Chocks in between the tires and they collapse to 1-3/8".

The closer the better in my opinion. Way less tire scrub on tighter turns with the axles closer.

In my opinion closer the better too.

The people that have problems with frames cracking and spring hangers failing almost always have spread axles.
