Better check those A/C and heat vents

After two months since I picked up our new 2014 Cedar Creek 34 RLSA I got around to cleaning out the A/C and heat ducts and vents. I was very pleased with the heat vents and ducts, not much saw dust and the duct work was sealed well with aluminium HVAC tape. I was not pleased when I got to the ceiling A/C outlets. Out of 7 outlets, none were sealed around the edges and most had a 1/4 " gap in places. Then I found one where they entirely missed the opening in the ceiling by about 2 inches (picture attached). I sealed all the edges and gaps with HVAC aluminum tape. All the gaps were pushing cool air between the roof and ceiling. I am guessing I may have increased my cooling efficiency by 10 to 15%, maybe more.

Better check yours.

Thanks for the heads up. I checked our vents and although I didn't see any out of alignment as you found, I did see plenty of gap for air to leak into the attic through. I will foil taping around the seam to stop the extra attic cooling. Even Duct tape would do the trick.
