My black tank valve is in need of repair. I leave it open and use a manual valve at tank connector until I can fix it.
We are forced to empty the gray tanks sooner than the black tanks are full.
Wife says the GEO method sounds expensive also.
Why do you leave it open? NEVER do that! Let it fill with water before you ever dump it. Otherwise you are building solids and asking for trouble.

I've tried Geo, blue chemicals, you name it. The #1 thing that seems to work best (and nothing works best really, toilet paper is the culprit) is RidX Liquid for RV's. I get it at Walmart or Amazon. I add Calgon every once in a while, and some of the blue chemical.

I am not going to spend unnecessary money, but a functional black tank is worth whatever it takes to get it right, IMHO.

If you’re worried about contaminating your grey tank, you’re over thinking it. Grey water can get pretty foul. Where do you think the bacteria goes when you wash your cute little body? The two tanks are connected with a tee anyway. It’s not like they are isolated. This makes less sense than putting your tp in a bag.

If your grey tank is nearly full, you can put 10 or 15 gallons into your empty black tank a lot faster than using the tank flush, and you don’t run the risk of overflowing the black tank. This flushes the tank way better than the black tank flush alone. If you have a clear elbow and watch it, you can close the grey tank valve before anything flows back to the grey tank.

I can run the black tank flush for 10 minutes after it runs clear, then fill the tank with fresh water and will see paper and solids leaving the tank when I open the valve.

Those 360 siphon vents look like a good idea. Water softener and laundry detergent has been working well for us.

I use the Blue Streak Dispenser and chemical for years never a problem. I recently added the Siphon 360 vent and it is truly amazing.
