Black tank mix
Does anyone have a good household product mix that will work in the black tank? The store bought stuff gets expensive.

As mentioned, the GEO method.
I use a combination of the GEO method and Blue Streak.
Blue Streak Chemical Dispenser.

Buy a valve and install on the end of sewer pipe. Open the extra valve and then open the black tank valve and drain the black tank. Close the extra valve and open the grey tank valve(s). If your tanks are on the same level as mine are, then they will reach an equal level and all the soapy water in the grey tanks will clean the black tank. Wait about 10 minutes and then open the extra valve and your sewer hose gets clean as all the tanks empty. Nothing else needed unless your black tank sits unused and then add some stinky prevention stuff.

If this works for you, great, but doesn't that also allow water from the black tank to move into the grey water tanks? I would prefer to keep them separated.

Why? Would you use either one for any purpose except waste? Both are stinky and full of germs. And yes, some waste water moves into the grey tanks from the black, but no big chunks because you emptied the black tank first.
PS: If you water the surrounding area with your grey tank water, then this wouldn't work because you are probably violating some other rules (laws).

Just checked Amazon, a 30 pack of toss in's cost $17.00 delivered. That's .57 each or for me and the wife $1.14 a week or $20.47 for our 13 weeks in the sunshine state. It can't get better than that, no fuss, no junk on the wall, no liquid to spill.

We have always used the liquid, one bottle each empty treatment.
We are in Florida for several months now and are looking at better cost solutions in black tank treatment.
My black tank valve is in need of repair. I leave it open and use a manual valve at tank connector until I can fix it.
We are forced to empty the gray tanks sooner than the black tanks are full.
Wife says the GEO method sounds expensive also.

I am in a 700 spot RV Resort in central Florida and there are mobile RV repair people in the resort daily. I would start tracking down one of them and get repair estaments. There is a lot of competition down here so pricing should be fair.

I would probably do this if I didn't have a black tank flush system. Once the grey tank flowed into the black it's almost impossible for black tank residue to make its way into the grey tank. Just need to make sure you don't get your drain procedures mixed up or your in for a contaminated grey tank you can't flush or deodorize.

We noticed an improvement after using a cap full of fabric softener after emptying the tank. We still use the chemical pods as well.

We use chemical pods and our black tank flush - and yes, fabric softener will add somewhat of a "slick" coating to the tank from what I've been told. About every second or third trip out I'll add a few gallons of water to the black tank, put in fabric softener and let it slosh around during travels.

FABRIC softener is chemically designed to cling to fabric and make them feel softer, not tanks.
Liquid WATER softeners (Calgon, Aquasil. Karcher, etc.) are designed to make water less hard and as such, become more slippery.

These provided the best results of anything we used to keep odors out of the RV. Put them on each vent.

FrankG or anyone,
Specifically which one is $17.00 for 30 toss-ins?
I looked on amazon and found toss-in prices to be closer to $1 each.
I am thinking of switching from liquid to dry toss-ins.
Thanks,
Chris
