In 35 odd years of driving tractor trailers both as an employee and an owner operator, I rarely checked the tire pressure with a pressure gage.

I 'thumped' them with a tire billy or a steel pipe. You can tell by the sound if they are inflated correctly. Thump an inflated to correct pressure one and note the sound. Then thump the rest. The sound changes with pressure.

When my tires are at correct pressure and I thump them, they sound like thumping a watermelon. If low, they sound like a cantalope.

Don't even try it! You know darn well those ST Chinese trailer tires will blow up if you try that.
