Dometic a/c stains
Posted in Community Discussions and didn't get any replies so I'll try here...I have a 2017 Cedar Creek with a Dometic 15K air conditioner. While checking the roof, I found these brownish stains that are coming from the a/c unit. I am wondering if others are experiencing these same stains and what might be the cause. I'm also thinking this isn't good for the roof material either. Anyone??

Someone on the Cedar Creek owners forum has this. There is oil leaking from the A/C unit. It will destroy the roof. In his case Dometic is replacing both the A/C unit and the entire roof.

Keith, I had the same issue with my Cedar Creek. I sent photos to the dealer in Conway, AR and Dometic authorized a new AC and roof. It is currently at the dealership having repairs made. There is another post on this site about the same subject.

I have a 2016 Cedar Creek 34RLSA and it has the oil stains on the roof from the Dometic a/c. Does anyone have a contact for Dometic?

I do not. When I did it, the dealer is the one that noticed it and knew what to do. They went online and had a form to fill out, which THEY did. I do know that they had to get on top of the trailer, take off the A/C shroud, and write down some numbers from the 'data tag' on the inside of the A/C unit. So, if you find the form online, you'd still have to have that info to file a claim.
I also asked if every Dometic A/C was covered, and they said no, just those made in a certain time slot. I don't know any more about that.
However, it is my understanding that the Dealer did not redo the roof. I believe a Dometic hired person came here and did it. I know they put my unit in a special, different, repair building than the normal one to do this.
I'd try calling a dealer first and see if I could find one around you somewhere that is familiar with this situation. Then, failing that, I'd try to find a Dometic number. I don't have it, but it is probably in the literature for the A/C unit out in the trailer.

I have a 2013 36CKTS, purchased in May 2013.
I noticed the brown stains years ago, but thought it was just dirt from being out in the weather.
Now I wonder?????
Does anyone think there is any recourse now after 4 years???
Thanks for input.

I truly had no idea either. This was a shock to me.
Glad my repair dealer found it.
It won't hurt to ask. But this is NOT a FR issue. Don't call them. Call Dometic.

Thanks everyone for the replies. I got in touch with Dometic and they told me to take it to the dealer and have it checked. Headed that way tomorrow.

Does your A/C unit work OK?
Stains from a working A/C unit with a dirty/weathered/rusted A/C drip pan are different than those from an A/C unit that lost freon and leaked oil and are built within a specific date span.

You are likely going to have to contact Dometic.
According to BandJ's post # 8 in this thread and those of others in the thread where it was replaced, it looks like someone (dealer or otherwise) got on the roof and supplied numbers to Dometic who determined if it was manufactured within a certain time frame.

I don't know the specifics. My repairing dealer took care of it. I'm sure they called Dometic, because they have about 5-6 of these currently in one stage or the other of repair. I don't know the ones that are under warranty or how to get it done if your dealer isn't interested.
For what it's worth, my A/C unit worked like a Champ!! If it leaked oil, I assume it would have issues down the road somewhere, but at 6 months old, it was working fine.........just leaking.
Dometic's number should be in your documentation or manual.
