Door doesn't swing freely
We have a Silverback 33ik and the door doesn't swing freely. I thought it would loosen up over time, We've had it 6 weeks this Friday. Thought about giving it a good squirt of WD 40 or the like. Thanks for any info.

A lot of RV's come with friction hinges on the door to help keep the wind from blowing it open or closed readily. It's highly likely that yours has that style hinge, and it shouldn't loosen over time.

But don't use WD-40 unless it's the dry lube WD-40. The regular WD-40 attracts dust and dirt.

We have a 2018 Cardinal. The friction door has now loosened up to where I can close the door from the outside with my fingertips. We’ve spent around 200 nights in it since new.

Our friction hinge loosened up also after a while. The wind would sometimes blow the door shut or I should say slam it shut. I installed the old style door latch. Works great now.

Thanks for the replies. Wasn't aware of the friction door thing. We've owned a few rvs before this one and this is a first. So far we love it, we are stationary for now, I retire in Jan and we plan on hitting the road then. I hope to have any kinks worked out by then. Thanks again.

If you look at the door jamb on the hinge side you should see a sticker indicating it has a friction hinge.

Me Too
I have a 2018 Cardinal 3456 and mine is the same way. Like he said. Its a friction hinge. I didn't know that was what it was called though. If you notice, it does not have a latch to lock it down from wind closing it. I put one on mine anyway cause a good wind will still close it. You might want to consider doing that as well.

Can't comment on the door hinge, but WD-40 is not a lubricant. It is designed to be used as a solvent and rust dissolver.

Hey WilliamG I went home yesterday and checked the door. Nowhere on the jamb did it say Friction, and I have a latch to keep it open. Just a stiff door I guess.

When we got our 2019 our door was stiff but thanks to this forum, I learned about the friction hinge and said to myself "Love it!". Door is not labeled at all. Just love that it doesn't bang the camper during winds or kids throwing open the door.

Hope you don't have the problems we had with our friction hinges system. [emoji37]

I found that our door was stiff. Tried lubricating, but that didn't help much. Also found that as you opened the door the inside filling of the door (foam type material) would separate from the frame along the hinge edge of the door. When we took it to Orvan last November, he replaced it under warranty. Think at that time he went to the factory and got a new one right off the floor.
As far as lubricating the the door or other things, he recommends CRC Power Lube.
