Drum to Disc Brakes
I'm researching in preparation of upgrading from electric drum to E/H disc brakes on my 2009 CC Silverback 30 LSA. I just replaced the defective Lippert sealed axles with Dexter EZ lube. I have read up on Hydrastar, Dexter and Actulink and am leaning toward Dexter. Zodiac dacromet coated 12" slip on rotors, Tie Down GalvX coated idler hubs and SS calipers with ceramic pads. Tekonsha Prodigy P3 in the cab. Your thoughts and recommendations appreciated.

Do a search there was a topic on this several months ago and the company comes right to your house to do the install. About $2800. Later RJD

We had the MORRyde Independent Suspension with disc brakes installed last June and what a difference in stopping power. The Hydrastar system has worked flawlessly as will the others I’m sure.

I got them installed by them. They came to my house. The brakes now work much better.

Call Bill at stopyourtrailer.com 813-363-4685. I installed discs on my 34RLSA. The kit was about 1500.00. I have an 08 f-250. You won,t need the adapter module (use an old brake magnet).

I installed Kodiak on my boat trailer. Awesome. I use the Titan E/H unit.

I installed my own, Hydrastar and Kodiak slip on rotors. I bought them from etrailer.com.

How would you rate the difficulty for a reasonably handy guy with an average range of tools. Any special tools required? What would you consider to be the most difficult part of the job? How difficult to adjust the new brakes? Can’t afford a pro to do it but would consider it myself. Thanks!

Disc brakes are so much better all the way around. Better stopping, no adjusting. I did my boat trailer and will be doing my RV next. Appreciate the responses

Running the hydraulic lines and wiring it up are the two hardest things.
No adjustments needed with disc brakes.

Disclaimer!!
I agree to ALL the benefits of Disc Brakes, really no downside except cost. In any braking situation, friction between the tire and the road is the limiting factor. If you can slide the tires whenever---that's all the brake you need or have. Once a tire looses friction, braking is lost, no matter how good the brakes are. I have read on here of folks who can't get lock up, then a change will work wonders. Long down hill runs with Disc brakes are better, little to no fade because of heat. Wish I had them but not at the price, I can still lock up alll 4 on the trailer. ABS on truck keeps them rolling.

For your info Ron Russel not longer owns performance trailer braking he sold out last fall and has new owners but still doing the installs. as I'm in travel mode I do not have the current owners info but I think it's still the same web site as you listed. Ron was to do a seminar for me at my rally and thats wfhen I found out he retired. Later RJD

I thought the OP was talking about electric disc brakes. No hydraulic lines needed?

All I can say is look closely at what calers are used. One brakd, I think it is Kodiak used a standsrd GM pad which are cheap and easy to find almost everywhere. Whereas the other brand uses a propriority disc pad which are expensive and hard to find. If your located near northern Louisiana, I have a mobile mechanic friend that does them all the time at a fair price.
