Exhaust fan for stove is useless.

The exhaust fan that has the on/off button on the front of the microwave just blows exhaust out the top of the microwave. Has anyone ever built a duct over the microwave door to capture this exhaust and direct it to the outside? You would have to install some exhaust fans in the outside wall in the cabinet above the microwave oven (where it plugs in).

There should be a vent on the outside wall that you have to unlatch for it to work.

many, if not most, are installed this way - since a vent out the roof, or out the sidewall, would be more intrusive, could have water leaks, and generally the microwave exhaust is just for hot air, not smoke.

YUP... this door can be quite hard to pop open... I had to use a flat blade screwdriver to pry it open... but works better when the outside door swings for sure.

Sounds like OP has a "ventless" type range hood that merely has a filter on it.

I'm sure I'm breaking some rule and will have the "Vent Police" on me soon after they read this but I pried mine open and have left it that way. Doesn't seem to be an issue with outside dust. When the wind blows the flap just stops it from letting cold air back into the TT.

Maybe there's some regulation for Coaches that require this vent to be latched while coach is being driven to prevent exhaust fumes from entering the vehicle but that makes no sense. If that's the reason then why are windows able to be opened while driving?

The OP has a ventless hood. As said above it has a grease filter and just exhausts the air back into the room.

If there's nothing on the outside of the RV where the vent would be, you can add an external vent.

@TitanMike -- We leave our vent unlatched pretty much 100% of the time and the only place we've had an issue was in Wyoming on a dusty decomposed granite road. The only issue was when we got to the campground we had dust everywhere. It was just some work to clean and vacuum it up.

Go with the vent on the outside wall. When I as replacing the outside bent unit (cracked from the sun) I found that it had never been unlatched.

If you have a “ventless” hood, it’s kinda hard to “Go with the vent on the outside wall.”

On a previous trailer, I removed the unvented stove hood and installed two computer fans in the roof vent in the kitchen. They are much quieter and still remove the heat and steam from cooking. Without the range hood you had much better access and view of what you were cooking.

I fully agree. An exhaust fan that doesn't exhaust is useless. You wouldn't accept this in your house, but people accept it their RV.

Removed the vent in the roof and replaced with a amazing vent with remote control. Wife could not reach the vent control on the ceiling. No more trouble with burnt toast.

I think SlowrideHD needs to take a walk outside his unit to see if there is a black rectangle flush box opposite his microwave.

It is my understanding that the 2014 Cedar Creek 34RLSA's microwave can vent to the outside. If he has a microwave/convection oven, it might not.

Mine is ventless too and I hate it. Already trying to keep the RV cool and all the cooking heat just blows inside. I intend to have an outside vent kit installed.

That's what we have, a microwave/convection oven. I think when we return home from our trip here to Gulf Shores, I'm going to take a look at a way to capture that exhaust from the top of the microwave and vent it out. I put a vented Splendide washer/dryer in our camper a few years ago and I think that style of outside wall vent cover with a flap would work well. I don't think the computer case fans that I installed in my fridge vent compartment would move a large enough volume of air. May need to install a 120 volt fan to really pull the air out. There is a 120 volt receptacle where the microwave plugs in but that wouldn't help if I were boondocking...unless I tied it into my inverter that I use to power DW cpap. All doable...we'll see!

Many microwave/hood vent combinations can be converted to vented operation by flipping the blower over and adding the outside vent kit.
Check your installation/operating manuals for the microwave to see if it can be changed to vented operation. Or, you could take your microwave down and check it out.

That is a nice shot of inside your RV of your microwave. Now, look on the outside of your RV and see if there is a rectangular black vent mounted where your microwave sits. If yes, open the flap. If flap is open then when they installed the microwave they did not put the fan in the external exhaust position. Easy to fix, remove microwave and remove fan and reinstall with correct exhaust direction.

If you don’t have a vent outside, you can install one but before you do check your microwave to,ensure the fan can be redirected.
