Went to Harbor Freight. Got 440# hitch for under $100. Installed in garage ceiling. Back truck in, hook up hitch with straps, lift up to clear truck bed, pull truck out, set on wheeled dolly. Move out of way. Works great.

Went to the dealership and got another truck. Leave the one with the hitch in the garage until I go camping. 😁

I saw this mentioned before. Harbor Freight had the one ton hoist on sale for $99. Problem is the boom is too short. How'd you guys circumvent that? I'm going to slide a longer piece of 2" square tube into the boom to extend to reach. Did you have this problem?

Sure,
1. leave the hitch connected to the pin,
2. remove the 4 pins holding the hitch to the rails.
3. Jack the camper using the landing gear to lift the hitch clear of the rails.
4. Drive truck from beneath the hitch.
5. Level camper and leave hitch secured to camper.
Reverse the procedure to reinstall the hitch
All this without having to do an imitation of Charles Atlas

Uncle Gene bought an engine hoist for this purpose... used it once, I think. Now he just leaves the hitch in his truck.

I have a slider hitch that is even heavier. I bought an engine hoist from Harbor Freight, put a few eye bolts in the extra holes on my hitch...then used a few snap links on the hoist. I lift out the hitch and set it on a small dolly...also from HF. Less costly than a hospital visit.

Remove the Hitch Head from the base then remove the Base. If you cant do that you are in bad shape.

To W5CI,
There are many individuals where age and physical limitations make lifting a hitch from bed height difficult and unsafe. Presenting options that may benefit them are what forums like this are for. Characterizing those people as in "bad shape" is disrespectful.

i have a lovely tree with a substantial branch that goes over the driveway. bought a manual chain hoist and some nylon lifting straps. I need a ladder to get a lifting strap over the branch and connect it to the hook on the top of the hoist. then back truck under the limb, attach lifting straps from hitch to hoist. works absolutely great. lower the hitch to a furniture dolly for storage.

I slide my Reese elite across the truck bed right onto the storage shelf at the front of the garage, then i do the same with my Powerhouse generator. Shelf at same height of the tailgate.

Reminds me a bumper sticker I saw on a pickup: "Yes it's my pickup - No I won't help you move."

Buy a light weight folding stand up trailer that fits in your garage. Use it as needed; take 2 aspirin for muscle strain [emoji106].
Option B.....sell all those toys; cancel your insurance and take a cruise.
Had my Curt hitch out 1x. That was the LAST TIME!!
5 years ago and painful memories linger [emoji23]

When we had a fifth wheel, we purchased an inexpensive electric winch from Cabelas that we hung from the rafters in the garage. We'd back in the truck and attach the hitch to the winch with tie down straps; raise the hitch up a few inches; drive the truck out of the garage; and lower the hitch onto a furniture dolly to move it for storage.

No disrespect meant, I have had heart surgery and both knees replaced among other things and at 73 I can take my Curt Q16 apart and lift it out of my RAM 3500. Just saying
