Front Door Issues

I have a feeling this is just the design but thought it's worth asking. On our trailer the door never has latched by closing the door. Outside you have to pull the latch so the backset is inside the door. Same thing closing. We have to pull back on latch, pull in and let go of backset for door to latch. Not doing so the door bounces on the strikeplate.

Try putting a small about of chap stick on the door side of the latch. See if it helps.
