Grey Tank Routing?

Discovered something interesting after camping for 5 days with no sewer hookup. It appears that the shower drains to the same grey tank as the kitchen sink leaving only the bathroom sinks to drain to the other grey tank. Is this the norm for CC.... my other 5vers the kitchen sink was on its own. Only thinking is if you have a washer drier it would be tied into bath grey tank? Comments?

Your thoughts on the reason for piping it that way make sense.

Sure looks like there'd be a bit of extra plumbing to get the shower hooked to the galley tank instead of basically straight into the main grey tank.. My 33IK is really close in basic floor plan to yours except your stool is in between the shower and bathroom sinks. My shower and bath sink drains into the main grey tank ... the kitchen sink solely drains into the galley tank. My galley tank is smaller than the main grey tank as well. I don't think your guess on the washer has anything to do with your setup because unless hooked to a sewer connection, your washer would fill up any tank in no time at all. My Montana's washer was plumbed in to the black tank for some odd reason.

While I only have one gray-water and one black-water tank, I know the shower and kitchen sink go into the gray-water tank. The bathroom sink goes into the black-water tank. Interesting. Wasn't expecting that at all.

My 2016 CC 34RL has the galley sink drain to one gray tank while the shower, bath sink and washer drain to the other gray tank. This causes the bath gray tank to fill quite rapidly while the galley tank barely gets above 1/3 in the same time. I wish the washer drained to the galley tank rather the bath tank but the washer is much closer to the bath tank.

I have heard, but have never tried, that you can add a another valve at the end of the sewer pipe that can be kept closed and open the two grey tank valves and the two tanks will equalize the grey water levels if one is much fuller than the other. Has anyone tried this? If so, how did it work?

Thanks

Reroute

You can see p trap in background of shower. Behind that it a T I placed in the forward pipe leading to 1st grey tank. The pipe coming out of that T comes toward you at top of photo to down spout going into 2nd grey tank. Now when either one fills it will travel to other before I have to dump. I now have 100 gallons of grey tank usage, no matter where it comes from.

I too also added the external valve so when closed I can open both gray tanks. The forward tank (washer/bath sink) is lower so it fills from the shower/kitchen tank. But I don't have to do this very often, we can camp with no sewer hookup for 2.5 to 3 days before tanks become an issue.

external valve

Florobama, can you expand your explanation of the external valve you installed. I want to do the same. Have 34RL2 and grey/gray tanks must be plumbed same as mentioned by others. Would like to increase capacity. Where did you get valve etc.? Thanks for your time.

It is just attached to your external sewer connection. It has a vavle and handle that twist on to your connection. You can pick one up at camping world or any RV parts store.

Here is a link to one:

Yes, I do that all the time. Works great.

Hi All,

Now that we are back home after touring for 6 months, I tried to transfer gray tank water from the bath tank to the kitchen sink tank in my 2016 CC 34RL. After filling the bath gray water tank, I closed the add-on external valve and opened both grey tank valves to see if the water would transfer. Unfortunately, it didn't transfer and the kitchen sink tank stayed empty. It may work on other CC models but didn't work on my 2016 34RL. O well, it seemed like a good idea and something to try while I was winterizing. Rig was level on a concrete pad so that wasn't the issue.

Thanks,

Tom
