Hose and cable entry

Has anyone come up with a good idea for plugging the 3" hole in the bottom of the storage compartment when hoses and cables are run through it? It looks like an inviting entry point for rodents and bugs. I have been stuffing it with rags but I am going to be stationary for 6 months this winter and would like something a little more permanent and a lot tighter.

My unit came with those holes filled with spray foam--a grey color. There are some opening under the very front storage area where the generator is however, this compartment is completely ( i hope) sealed off from the rest of the trailer.

How do you run a water hose?

How about a,piece of plexiglass with notches cut in it for what goes through. You could seal and screw it down.

In my 33ik there is about a 3" hole that has a screw in cover. When I set up the cover comes off and the satellite cables and water hose come in through it.

Hi,

I made a pest entry barrier from from the lid of a plastic Maxwell House coffee container. It is about 6" in diameter.

I cut a hole in the center of the lid that is the size of my water hose, and made a slit from the hole to the edge of the lid.

When I remove the screw plate/plug in the floor of my compartment, I slide the hose up through the hole, work it through the slit in the lid and into the hole, and then seat the lid down over the large hole the screw plug left.

Thus removed a lot of my concern about critters getting inside my rig when the hose is connected.

FWIW.

I have never had a problem with my Cedar Creek about a critter climbing the water hose. If one should get in where would he go, it's all metal there

Hi,

My Silverback has several unpluggable routes from that hose connection area to the rest of the trailer.

On one of our first trips out, a rodent got in by climbing the hose through the unsecured threaded hole. It plundered the kitchen drawers, went below deck and ate through all the wires to the rear end, and then made a nice nest in the insulation under the tanks (including stocking it with an intact granola bar from one of the drawers). Huge problem that I hope to prevent from ever happening again.

FWIW.

The Cedar Creeks must be made different, a rodent would have to be Houdini to do any damage by climbing up the water hose

Here's what I did

I made my own hole plugs out of scrap plywood, a channel, a nut and bolt.
Works fine.

Hi,

Steve has done essentially the same thing I did, using different materials.

And yes, at least the 2014 Silverback 33RLs were set up in a way that readily allows rodent passage from the area where the water valves are to the undercarriage, water heater/furnace compartment, kitchen drawers, and even the batteries and hydraulic pump. In fact, in my sad episode a wire in the hydraulic pump harness was nibbled and cut, in addition to all the wires to my taillights.

Maybe if I had left more granola bars out for the little rascal, my wiring would have been ignored...

FWIW.

We used a plastic funnel, cut off the bottom spout and then cut down the side of the funnel. This allowed us to insert the water hose and cable wire. Then used a spring clamp to hold the funnel closed. This sat down in the big hole and would keep critters out. Has worked quite well

I just wrap a hand towel around the hose(s) and stuff it in the hole. Then I use it to dry the compartment when I disconnect.

I removed the inspection cap. Found the printed brand name on it and ordered two (1 spare) on ebay. I found that different brands use different threads. Drilled a hole with a paddle bit on the edge and cut with hacksaw blade making a U-shape hole. When hooking up I run the water hose and cable TV wire through the hole and it's a tight fit.

True experience a month ago. Heard a scratching sound in BR but could not figure it out. (1am) Generally we have our CAT with us. Fully clawed Maine Coon[emoji106]. This weekend, NOPE. Next night heard scratching again. (2am) Hit lights FAST. It was a MOUSE. Our son was eating pretzels in our MBR and left one out of the zip lock bag. Wife had a el cheapo fun minnow net. First attempt; NADA. I cleared the dresser top, sans pretzel. Laid on foot of bed on my back, net cocked, pretzel bait centered. Light out. 1 minute: BAM. Got it. Out the door and [emoji99][emoji99][emoji99]. All good.
Next trip; cat returns. It's like an insurance policy; pay and pay and one day it pays off!! [emoji250]. Bigger rodents may require a [emoji881]!!

We had a mouse in our 5th wheel one time. When we got off the trip I ordered a couple of packages of stainless steel wool from a big box store and stuff it around the water hose and tv cable where they come in the compartment. Not a problem since.
