Hydraulic slides and more

Have a 2016 Cedar Creek 34RL. Had more troubles than you can count from day one, too many to list, some help from manufacture representative. Wound up fixing most of the problems myself because no one wants to work on an RV under warranty, they don't get paid enough. Purchased an extended warranty from Interstate, Diamond coverage. That only means the constraints of the coverage are so tight you cannot violate them one bit or they won't pay. Had a hydraulic hose break under the sleeping bed, had 4 quarts of transmission fluid under the sleeping bed. The hydraulic hose broke because manufacture did not follow the rules for installing the hose so the slide does not close and bend the line too tight. Had to call out a RV repair guy out of San Antonio, TX., a two hour drive, you pay for both ways of travel. Repair guy should have known he has to get approval from the warranty gods for his diagnosis before starting repair and he has to make complete repairs even if it means he has to order the part and come back to put it in, no exceptions as I was told. No getting you back on the road to get you home, or they won't pay. Had to pay $675 for a $45 dollar hydraulic line, that included in that cost plus two day delivery from Lippert. Ok so if I took it to another RV repair shop where I live the warranty would pay for the install of the line but would have to pay an $80 dollar diagnostic fee first. Oh by the way the warranty gods will not pay for any damage done by the four quarts of transmission fluid under my bed. Buyer be ware. As the old saying goes typically warranties are not worth the money.

Next time (hopefully not) try and look for an implement dealer or a NAPA store in the area. They can make a hydraulic hose for you way cheaper than overnighting one in from Lippert. There's nothing special about our hydraulic systems or hoses ... replacement hoses can be made like mentioned. Top off reservoir after replacement, cycle slides full in and out 2-3 times, and the system self bleeds the air out. I agree about extended warranties ... money pits. Save that money in a separate account and draw out as needed repairing it yourself.

Agree

I agree with setting aside the warranty money. Getting too old to curl up like a pretzel and work on stuff and had great luck with extended warranty on truck so took a chance. Also know I could have gotten a hose made up at auto parts but none I found are rated for 3000 psi and generally hoses found were stiffer requiring a longer bending radius which is already a problem. Does hose need to be rated at 3000 psi, probably not but Lippert hydraulic lines are more flexible and rated as per required specs I assume. You would think a mobile repair that knew you needed a hydraulic line would bring what they need to make it up on site, it is not like the crimping tool won't fit in the nice rig they drive. Unfortunate we all live and learn, just wanted others to know the extended warranty unless free, is not worth anything unless you follow the exact procedures so have it handy and make sure anyone that works on your RV knows those procedures.

I have had great success getting warranty work done and paid for. Not sure how you went about it. Sounds more like dealer and worker 'rules' and issues than manufacturer warranty, but not sure. Hope it works out for you. I have extended warranty but have not used it; I do understand that will be a totally different animal to deal with. FWIW, I didn't buy from my local dealer but they have gladly worked on it several times under factory warranty.

I brought a extended warranty from Camping World that's not worth the paper it's written on. You have to pay a fee for them to check it even if you know the problem. The second year warranty from Forest River is the best.

In my opinion...class action lawsuits make a lot of money for the lawyers and don't leave much for the victims..Not worth the trouble just get it fixed and move on..

If it ain't a manufacturer backed warranty, caveat emptor. You basically contribute your hard earned money to enrich those who know the odds of more dollar intake versus claims paid. That's the game in a nut shell. Sure, there is always the token "success" story. [emoji90]
