It Happened to Me - OUCH!!!
After 45 years of driving school buses, semis, pop-ups, travel trailers and a 5th wheel I hit a steel post next to a gas pump. No more shopping for the best price on diesel any more. I'm going to the truck stops from now on. Luckily there is no structural damage just scratches and paint along with the ladder. Only one of the ladder mounts pulled out so those screw threads might need a little work.

Ouch!
If you've gone 45 years without something like this happening, I'd say you've beaten the odds.

Yep my first one with a trailer. Had a few fender benders but never with a trailer connected.

I feel for you. We bought our 38 CK brand new in Cedar Creek TX in 2015 and pulled it all the way around the Pacific NW without incident... over 5000 miles. My wife did a great job guiding me into and out of spaces.
Then returned to TX to visit family in San Antonio. I pulled into an RV park that had pull through spaces that were 90 degrees from the road. I didn't realize that the rear end of the RV would swing out so much when I turned and I didn't wait for my wife to park her car... I crunched the back door of a van that was parked on the right side of the road. Double ouch.

I got mine out of the way at the very first fill up. Hopefully, never again.
Safe and happy travels.

did the same thing with my first trailer hauling to a NASCAR race in NH.
cut it the wrong way and took out the skirting and the rear bumper. shoved it sideways by 5 inches. the bright yellow concrete tube should have been a clue... it wasn't

Neighbor cut a hole down the driver side of his Montana from the rear of the wheel well to the back bumper. Fire Hydrant ! Cap caught wheel well and he didn't even feel it till it caught the frame by the back bumper and it stopped the truck in it's tracks.

Could have done like we did three years ago. Hooked a gas station post and pulled the rear wall out slightly.

Feeling your pain
While pulling out our CC Champagne out of storage today, I thought it was past pole and turned. Wasn't past, hit post, pulled back cover loose breaking back window. Whole back cover will need to be replaced.
Estimated cost $12,000 to $14.000.

Good insurance is for people like you and me. I use to know the first name of the body shop owner. It got to where when he saw me come it was another hit on the camper

Amish Family RV replaced my rear cap for about $5k. I didn't have a window to replace, but can't imagine it being that different.

I hope the repair facility can repair for $5,000 and there 13-14,000 phone estimate is way off.
Thanks

Don't count on it. Lot's of them like to gouge you. I'd try a few different shops. Those that work on fiberglass boats might be of help.

My first (and only--so far) was with an irrigation pipe trailer and I took out a gas pump. Thankfully it was disconnected. Dark of night in rain storm and only 18 YO. Taught me a very valuable lesson in double checking.

Think seriously if you plan to make an insurance claim. It will go as a 100℅ at fault claim even if no police report or other property damages were made. It stays in your file for 3 years.
