KW-1 filter

Has anyone changed their whole housing filter for a new brand? If so, what brand and did it install easy?
Thank you!

If you enter "KW1" in the search box, you will find lots of discussion on this. In my unit, it's so hard to access that I totally removed it and now use a Campco inline filter on the hose.

FYI, Here is a company that I have used for several years that specialize in RV water filtering. I use the Jumbo canister for my EL38 fifth wheel. The filters can last for 6 to 12 months full time camping. Good luck...

In my TT it's hard to access too but then again, I like how the OE setup works and I only have to change once per year. On last change it took longer to remove and replace the screws on the "third hinge" to access the filter assembly than it did to actually change the cartridge.

A 9x9 cake pan, hand towel, and wrench supplied with trailer handled the job easily. Well, yes, I did have to bend down too

I buy my replacement KW-1 filters from Hanna RV and when I buy 2 or more they aren't a lot more than the external inline filters.

Water from my tank, passing through the KW-1 filter, tastes just like water from a bottle.

The other issue that owners report is that eventually the KW1 cracks and leaks and then where are you? I didn't want to wait that long.

The manufacturer of the filter changed design some time back. If you have a new trailer the chance of cracking is greatly diminished to no more than any other filter canister. Unless you let it freeze with water in it.

I took out the complete filter and housing. Installed external filter on fill hose outside. Then put a sediment filter in place of the original filter, like the one that is on the water pump.

I installed the GE GXWH20S filter in mine. I like the fact that it has a built in bypass valve.

I was surprised that it included a 90 day battery operated timer that can fit on the top of the filter or it can easily attached to and magnetic surface.
