Maintenance of Rubber Roof (RV-Armor)

We have a 2019 Cedar Creek 331K which I just finished spending several hours cleaning and sealing my my roof. I used the DICOR Cleaner and Protector. I have to say it came out pretty well. The only problem I have is the frequency that the protector has to be applied, every 5 to 6 weeks.

I was wondering if there is any other protector on the market that lasts longer??

I was looking at an RV-Armor clip on Youtube where they guaranteed the roof for life and that you never have clean you roof again. I was wondering if anyone out there has a RV-Armor roof and what their thought were.

I am presently 72 and I can't see myself applying rubber roof protector every 5 to 6 weeks.

I'm 62 and you won't see me putting protector on my roof every 5 to 6 weeks. I scrub my roof once a year with a rubber roof cleaner, check the sealant for cracks every 6 months and repair as needed. I'm a little skeptical of the roof spray on stuff as to it's real durability and warranty claims.

I talked to a local marine/rv shop about the intense cleaning and treating talked about on forums and youtube. His recommendation is to do what you like, or do next to nothing.... But in 10 to 15 years stop and drop the unit off and he will replace the entire roof membrane no matter what I do or do not do. So he is saying to me that I can buy into every maintenance rule program out there and yet the roof will still need to be changed in around the 10-15 year point. He was very sure that we all need to do a 6 month inspection and if needed, re-seal any areas showing any sign of delamination or cracking.

So I am going to resist going nuts about scrubbing and treating the roof. I have no plans of owning the camper for 10 years, so I will scrub it and inspect/seal any suspect areas and move on to the next unit in a few years. Let the 2nd or 3rd owner replace a roof membrane far off in the future. Not my issue.

In my humble opinion those applications are mostly snake oil just like flushes at your local car dealer. We all want our stuff to last forever and those things play on that desire. Clean it up in the spring with detergent mixed with Clorox outdoor mold remover and inspect for sealant going bad. Have been doing that forever without driving myself nuts with good results. Don't over do it, enjoy life

I've been following RV Armor (and similar) roof replacement for several years. Can't find a negative post other than it adds a bit of weight to your unit. Installation cost is the same or cheaper than replacing a membrane roof. If/when I replace, it's the way I'm going.

My question is do you have a EPDM rubber roof membrane that needs treatment after cleaning or do you have a TPO roof membrane that requires no treatment?

I've read reports from manufacturers that harm is actually done to TPO roofs by using treatments when it isn't necessary.

What is the best way to know if you have an EPDM rubber roof or if you have a TPO roof. I have heard and read several different ways but nothing solid. I saw a roof that done with RV Armor and it looked great after 3 years.

You can remove the interior cover from your A/C or vent and look at the roof material that is folded down around the edges. White top and bottom TPO. White top black bottom EDPM. That is my understanding of how to tell the difference.

What does the documentation that came with your R/V say about the roof material?
Most roof membranes have multi-year warranties and the documentation explains the how and where-to's.

There was just a similar post about this topic yesterday.

I'm set up with an appointment with rv-armor to put a new roof on my 2017 a tree jumped out in front of me. to have the roof done and never to touch it again is 6000.00 . not cheap .hope it works as good as they say. will let you all know

Good luck wire1946. Keep me posted. Pictures? From what I've read, your bad luck may turn out to be a blessing. No more climbing, scrubbing, and sealing. Pricey, but I think worth it.

If your membrane on your roof is the Superflex one, it is clearly mentioned not to use any protector on it and that it might even damage it!!

I have a 2016 Cedar Creek, 36 CKTS, which I assume has the same roof. I have it inspected every year. I have had no problems. I do not clean or put on a coating.

My only thing for my roof is to rinse it with the hose periodically to help reduce the black marks where water runs off of it. If you park under trees regularly you may need to do a more thorough cleaning due to sap, and or the black stains trees put on your roof. I've never used any coatings so can't really comment on them, but there's a lot of discussion on these pages for them.

R V Armor is not a spray on product, we had a serious problem with the roof of our Wolf Pup , the dealer suggested a new roof, the cost of which would have been $5,000. What that would have done is give us the same kind of roof that would have required annual maintenance and inspection. R V Armor offered a much better product which doesn’t require annual maintenance and has a life time warranty which goes with the trailer regardless of ownership. The cost was about the same because they found most of the particle board had failed and had to be replaced, they used real plywood and remediated the mold and replaced the insulation that the mold had destroyed. I can’t say enough good things about this company and their technicians, they did a wonderful job. I will attempt to add pictures with this post.
