New 36ck2, No Hot Water

We moved into our new CC 36CK2 yesterday. We were unable during the PDI, to test the water heater, since it was winterized, my bad for being nice and not forcing the issue... that said.

We are not getting any hot water from our, Gerard 2, endless hot water heater. I've check all the fuses, they are fine, I made sure the hot water switch is turned on. On the outside, I made sure to turn the hot water by pass switch to parallel with the line so water flows (or should flow) thru the hot water heater. The little on/off switch is a line on one side and a circle on the other, I've tried both ways with the switch, currently I have the line side depressed.

Water pressure is 50psi so that is sufficient. What else should I check or did I do something wrong, if so what ?

Not being familiar with the tankless water heaters plumbing design, I didn't even realize they had a bypass/crossover valves. If so, and "IF" it bears any similarity to the tank type water heaters, then it's possible this thread may help in determining your bypass (and/or crossover) valve selection.

Cumminz,

Yes I have a temp control in the bathroom. I've tried lowering the temp as I read on other threads that this sometimes helps. But not this time.

We tried everything imaginable to make our OEM tankless HW heater work. Even the techs at FROG couldn't do it on fresh water and pump. We just got a conventional 12 gallon and are very happy with that.

Good luck. SOME folks love theirs.

Yes, the furnace is running fine, so I assume the propane lines are clear of air and working properly.

When you turn hot water spigot on full and let it run do you hear water heater running outside?

you may have to take the panel off the back of the hot water setup, there's a bypass valve in there, red in color if I remember right.
when you turn the hot water faucet on, is there water coming out, just not hot?
mine was bypassed, plus I maxed the temp on it. There's some tiny switched's you have to have them in a certain way.

The bypass valve between the incoming cold and exiting hot should NOT be parallel to its line, but perpendicular.

Agree with John F, after you try that you might try removing cover on the back of heater and there is a reset button it shows this in your book its not fun but we had to do this on our first trip the first night

By chance are you getting a error code at the display panel ( ours is in the bathroom on our River Stone ), we had this issue and it turned out the gas valve was stuck. After hearing back from the manufacture of the hot water heater we were told to tap the valve to unstick it, I believe it was a E1 error code. We have the same heater

Cumminz,

Nope, I don't hear the water running outside, I'm going to recheck (try different valve positions).

No reset button on the hot water heater for those who suggested that, there is an auto lockout feature, but you simply have to turn off the heater, wait, turn it back on, to fix that condition.

Thanks for all the suggestions so far.

My question was do you hear heater come on? If not you are not getting flow thru heater. With no flow there is nothing to actuate heater.

John F,

Thanks for the pics, it worked, well partially. When I use the outside shower, hot water heater kicks on and works. All the indoor plumbing still is cold only and the heater doesn't kick on.

Any other ideas ?

(one part down at least, but my neighbors might not like me taking a shower outside )
