New 5er

Heading out tomorrow on my 5000 mile round trip to pick up my new 5th wheel from Jeff Couch Rv in Ohio. So far (knock on wood) the purchase has been very easy and Brannon has been more than patient and very easy to work with. I have been looking at new rigs for 3 years now, gotten at least a dozen quotes from him, hit him up on online as well.

I would also like to put the good word out for the folks at Trailer tire and wheel in Ohio as well. They are sending my upgraded wheels and tires down to Jeff's to be mounted on the new rig before I get there. I went with a aluminum 17.5 rim and GY G114's

I will be headed there going through Montana, South Dakota, Indiana. The return trip will be down through Missouri, Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico, AZ over to CA then straight up I-5 to home. I would appreciate any advise on things to watch for in any of these areas.

Congrats on the new purchase, What unit did you go with? I pick up my new 2018 Silverback 29RE on Friday from Jeff. Luckily I am only 9 miles away. If you need any recommendations while in Ohio, let me know.

We got a 2018 Silverback 37FLK. Hopefully I will be getting to Hamilton on Saturday that way I can rest on Sunday. I pick mine up on Monday, going to Discount tire first in the morning to swap my winter tires on my truck.

How the weather there?

Got 2 5ers from Jeff. The last was a 17 38EL champagne. sept 16. The people there are great and very helpful.

I am about an hour south of there just inside KY. It is to rain 3 to 5 inches now through Sat. Mon and Tue are sunny and 50s. Be safe. Don't know where you are staying, but there is a cabellas, bass pro and Ikea all about 10 min from Couchs. If you need and directions pm me and I will give you my number. Grew up in Cincinnati area.

Well I made it home. The wife joined me in Oklahoma and we camped all the way back to Washington. 3380 miles, definitely a good shake down. Fortunately for us everything worked great, I do think the front slides for the front living room make a lot more noise than I think they should be. I am planning on waxing outsides of slides and spraying silicone on the rubber around them, hopefully that will calm the chatter noise. If anyone has a suggestion I am open to hearing them. Also cant seem to get the remotes for tv in the bedroom to work. Does anyone know how to pair the remote with the TV? They are Jensens.

I can't say enough about Jeff Couch RV, everything was as promised, PDI went smooth, tech walked me through each of the features in the unit. Paper work was a breeze.

I would also like to say I am more than pleased with Trailertireandwheel, they had my new rims and tires shipped to JC RV in plenty of time for dealer to install for me. GY G114s worked great, no issues.

Overall very please with my purchase, there are a few little tiny issues that are a little annoying but nothing major. Like saw dust in cabinets ever time we stop at campsite for night but it seems to be dissipating. I will be changing the cheap foam weather stripping around the front door as well as adding rubber bumpers here and there where cabinet doors touch when open.

Nice rig. It took us several trips with our 2018 to get the saw dust out of everything. I eventually opened up all the AC and furnace vents and put a vacuum hose as far as I could in the ducts to get them cleaned out.

Gman, I have the same 5th wheel and the Jensen TV's. The remotes work if you point then directly at the lower corner where the receiver is. In the bedroom that's the left lower corner, the living room it's the right.

The Jensen media console is finicky as well.

While you are cleaning sawdust out of the ducts, look at the shape of the duct. I found one that was crushed upward from below, restricting air flow.

Ya I don't understand why the prices here in WA are so high, I know they pay like 3500 for freight but every dealer I talked to here had the same unit with less options for 8-12K difference in price. Took me 3 years to pull the trigger but I'm glad we did.

Because West Coast dealers know most of us won't drive to the Midwest to get the RV.
So they raise the prices and also want to make a profit on the shipping costs.

Back it 2006, we refused to be taken advantage of and drove from NorCal to Chicago and back to pick up our new HTT.
Made a camping trip o n the return leg.
We saved over $4k, even after trip costs. The trailer had a MSRP of $22k.

Congrats on your new rig. Glad your shake down trip went well. Dealing with Couchs is great. Bought my 1st Toyhauler from Jeff in 06, then he was a lot smaller. Sent 6 other friends and family there to buy over the years, and went back last year and bought a 38EL.
Everyone there is easy to work with and very helpful. And you can not get a better price.
Hope you enjoy it like we do.
