Not cooling down

Newbie here just purchased my first camper it’s a 2020 cedar creek silverback 35lft. The problem I’m having is we our currently in Northern California and the temps have reached 100 degrees this past week and in the camper the temps reached 90 degrees all the shades were closed and the door stayed shut we also had a dyson fan that ran all day. What is going on with this or is this normal?

All closed up in 90 degree weather with just a fan pushing the hot air around?

Yea, 100 sounds pretty normal to me. Unless you are running an A/C, the air inside the trailer isn't going to be any cooler than outside.

Really, that goes for anything. A house, a car, a cardboard box...

Agreed. You never stated whether the a/c was running or not.....if not you are just moving hot air around.

I'm going to assume the AC was running. The OP said "also had a fan running".
One AC unit on a 35' is pushing it under good circumstances. They are not really efficient above design temps (Maybe 93°f?). There is the possibility that it is simply not enough capacity. I know both of our 15k units run their tails off in the hot/ humid south in full sun.

I assumed "also had a fan running" was in addition to "all the shades were closed and the door stayed shut".

Unless/if DanielJan returns here, we’ll never know about the situation of whether his AC unit was working/ON or not. Until then......speculation is all we have.

Yes the A/C was on set at 69 and has been on 69 for a week. Two A/C units both on and on auto cool only

Do both units appear to be pushing cold/cool air? Seems like two units should be able to get it down below 90, even in those ambient temps.

After being in Houston in the summer.

One ac unit would likely get the temp to the upper 80’s during 100 degree days.

Our units ran all day full tilt. Not a great deal below 80 in the fiver.

Often this is a result of poor assembly of the coach. AC units sit on the roof with 2 holes beneath them. One hole is for intake air, the other for cold exhaust air. The 2 holes must be completely sealed and isolated from each other. If not, cold exhaust air will leak into the intake side completely killing the efficiency of the unit and typically causing ice up of the condensor. When they slap these units together, they do a terrible job of sealing these ports. You cannot tell unless you remove the AC unit and look inside the hole. When I had one of my 2 AC units replaced, which never cooled well since new, not only was the hole unsealed, but flaps from the rubber roof material were never trimmed properly and they hung down into the hole blocking the ports almost completely. The RV repair company that replaced my AC unit said he sees this shoddy situation on virtually every RV he replaces a unit. Gotta love Elkhart, IN quality...

BTW...Now my AC unit cools like it never did before. It was 88 in my camper and dropped to the low 70s in no time.

I bought my 29VT used. The One and only AC didn’t seem to cool well at all. I had the AC charged up. They had to install fill ports on the lines which tells the the 6 year old unit had never been serviced. It made all the difference in the world as far as cooling.

The general thought around here is that these A/C units are not worth charging. Most of them have never been serviced. If their coils, etc., leak... installing fill ports will not fix the leak and high-dollar coolant will have to be applied later.

You see this same thread every year. Answers are the similar. The ac unit inlet to outlet temp change is about 22 degrees and that's it. Measure it. Do you block off the roof vents with a piece of foam? Camco sells these. Have you done similar to the skylight. Do you use multiple air circulating fans? If in humid conditions, do you run a dehumidifier. I can reccommend the Ivation 14.7,which is a compressor style and draws under 2A. Current draw is way important. Small footprint and lightweight. Mine pulls about 1/2 gal of water out a day and allows the ac to cool the air and spend less effort condensing the water out

If you are in full sun at 100 degrees that might be normal with only 2 ac units.

If you are in shade I might question it a bit.

We have 3 ac units. A few years ago we were at a site in IL with full sun all day. With all 3 units running and 98 degrees outside I think it kept it around 75 inside but it felt like a refrigerator inside because of the high humidity outside.

They were cranking all day long.

If you camp a lot in heat that high you might look into adding a 3rd AC.

Get a thermometer and check temps at the outlets closest to the units. Should be the same about 20 degrees below the temp of the outside.

My unit is larger and handles 100 quite well. Gets the rooms under 80.

Yours should as well.

Has anyone thought of a roof cover specifically for when you are staying in the Texas sun? Just to cool off the 5th wheel?

But, sending the DW to the roof with a sprinkler works!

You can purchase a fine mist sprinkler for your home.
