Odor Question

Have a 2015 Cedar Creek Hathaway Edition. Grey water odor heavy in front storage and in battery compartment. Anyone have or had this problem? Thanks

do you tow the Cedar Creek to camp grounds or is it parked at one? If you tow it fill the gray tank to about 1/3 to 1/2 full of water. Add 2 cups of dawn dish soap to the tank before you drive to the next camp ground. This will wash the inside of the tank to help remove slugs and dirt from tank with the next tank draining. If it is siting on a site fill the tank the same way and let it sit a day or two snd then drain. may have to do it several times to get it cleaned.
Biologic odor control additives will help also and prevent future buildup.

Hope this helps Tim

Odd to have odor in storage compartment. There should be no vents or drains into that compartment. Check for a vent pipe or drain that may be running thru that compartment that might be compromised.

Doesn't have to be vents or pipes or drains nearby, that odor gets everywhere...I know from a past experience with a gray tank going bad.

Thanks for your info. Also have you heard that batteries will also give off an odor if over charged? I have 4-6 volts. Vents for the two grey tanks are under each sink (kitchen & bathroom) with no odor there. I also have checked underbelly with no leaks.

Is the 6 volt battery a standard lead acid battery? AGM are sealed and no water can be added very little to no off gassing. If standard you need to check the water level. A battery low on acid/water will boil and stink. Fill back up with only distilled water. What is the battery charger voltage output? Voltage more than 16 volts may or will damage the batteries if applied for a long time span.

Hope this helps Tim

It's a good idea to add an odor control chemical to the gray water tanks too. What goes into gray tanks doesn't naturally stink like what goes into black tank but after a while soap residue as well as the food particles and grease that find their way into the tank will ferment and/or turn rancid.

Some gray tanks can end up causing more odor problems than black tanks.

Over the years I've found the cheapest product sold for gray tanks does a fine job and they usually have a strong Citrus smell when packet is opened but a non-issue when rinsed down the drain. I put some of the packet in each drain, kitchen and bath sinks as well as shower drain. Then pour a couple cups of water in to rinse down and make sure it dissolves. This allows the stuff to work on whatever has accumulated in the P-Traps and eventually it all ends up in the tank.

Found my problem. Two of the 6 volt batteries were bad. First replaced the two but they were bad. Went to two 12 volt. Better way. Odor gone.
