Really poor engineering to have installed the doors literally backwards from how they should be as it traps water and soap between the panels..

Perhaps your door ARE installed backwards. Our doors on the shower side have plastic stops (don't know what to call them) that don't allow anything inside that area. On the bathroom side there is a gap and it is easy to get a cloth or whatever in when cleaning is necessary.
As a side note, I use Wash Wax All on my shower and the doors (and the mirror and all the stainless steel appliances) and water just rolls off. No squeegee necessary.
